I will probably be starting a Salamanders army soon, so I was looking through the fluff, and I came accross the missing artifacts. I thought Necrons when I heard the Engine of Woe, and I already knew about the World Engine. I think the Necrons are going to use it to wipe out everyone but themselves. What are your thoughts on this?

im pretty sure the Artifacts were built by the Primarch Vulkan, so they were created way after the Necrons went to sleep. i dont know if theyd use something created by Man.

No one knows what the missing four artifacts are. Funny, we were just sitting around and talking about this last night.

Necron tech did come up from a club member, although in the form of the Song of Entropy. I think it's totally possible for Vulkan to have found a piece of broken Necron equipment and repaired it.

I don't think the Engine of Woes is a vehicle though, personally. (I think the Obsidian Chariot is a vehicle.) If I had to guess, I would speculate that the Engine of Woes is a weapon. A big one. As in, like, a planet-killer. They've already got a defense satellite, but an offensive weapon of that magnitude would be just the ticket.

Anyhoo, that's just my personal guess on the topic.

I think the Song of Entropy and Engine of Woes are weapons, or maybe ships.

The Obsidian Chariot is most likely a vehicle.

The Song of Entropy could be some sort of gun that disintegrates the target, or sucks the energy out of it to create an area of uniform energy. which would be quite damaging.

I feel the Engine of Woe is just that. An engine upon which the artifacts are connected to create/do/destroy something incredible.

I always thought that the Song of Entropy was some kind of engineered nanite plague or a virus of some kind, something that could be remotely programmed to consume whatever the controller wished (metal, flesh, what have you). Once released, it could even mutate to eat whatever was available. Essentially, it becomes an unstoppable wave of destruction, with only the gulf of space serving to pen it in. Once it destroys/disintegrates all available material, it goes inert. (Allowing for retrieval and storage.)

The reason I didn't think the Engine of Woes is a literal power producing engine is because I thought the Unbound Flame was some kind of limitless energy source.

I don't think the salimanders head honcho would mess with xenos tech given his skill in craftmanship and his fathers love for all things alien, but hey it's 40k, why not, you never know with GW.

I'm sure there's a thread I read on here about the artifacts of Vulkan where people put forward what they thought the nine were. It might be a helpful read for you in your quest.

Come into my web, said the spider to the fly.
Come rest your wings, and let us talk eye to eye.
For I am a spider, and you are the fly. Now that you are here, let us sit, and say hi.
But I have have no morsel to share, nor anything to eat. But wait, what is that stickiness upon your feet.
Ah now I have you, now I can eat. Now I can enjoy you, or store you as meat.
For I am the spider, and you are the fly. How else could it have gone, between one such as you, and one such as I.
