Subject: Does the Storm Raven make the Templar Competitive again?

With the resurgence of Teminators and the fall off of Rhinos/Razors, 6th ed. has been a turbulent time for the Templar. However they remained off the tournament radar because of the lack of flyer support.
Now that the Templar have a Storm Raven, I'm of the opinion that they are now going to arise as a very competitive tournament army. The capacity to put 2 special weapon and tank hunter into a 5 man termie squad means that black tide which had been gathering dust now has highly effective air support. And the knock on BT in the last edition was the exorbitantly expensive rhino chassis... now that no one takes Rhinos, this is definitely a smaller problem.
I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks of BT combat effectiveness....
I'm also curious to see whether this is even relevant considering how uncommon BT players are.

They are already competitive. My buddy plays Templars a lot and gets laughed at for playing them... until he tables his opponents. One model is not going to make or break an army, nor is it going to make it an out-of-the-box OMGAWESOMESAUCEBESTARMYEVAHHHH!!!!! army choice.
Its called trial-and-error.

Im playing with both flyer this weekend and Ill let you know. If you change your avatar.
A couple bat reps have been posted on Bolter and Chainsword from BT players running flyers. Results are good. Will take time to compile enough data to determine their usefulness, end of story.

BT simply have so little unique material anymore. Only thing they did well in 5th was the 2xCML+Tank Hunter on terminator. Now, tank hunter is worse and AP3 is meh for breaking vehicles. Still effective, but not nearly as scary as 5th. Other than that... they have nothing. Poor in assault (Tac Eq, minus grenades), general marine selection of firepower minus things like TFC, and nothing that would really make them strong. POTMS Vindicator is cool, but not game changing. Vows are cool, but again not great, especially when being closer to the enemy gains little with MEQ forces. They have so much potential and are far more fluffy than DA, but are badly in need of a codex. Hopefully its Demons, BT, then Eldar/Tau.

hahah always wondered if people noticed my avatar.... trust me, it's a joke.
@solo-falcon
Naw man, they're not. BT has consistently been unrepresented in GT's and major tournaments. In the Atlanta gaming scene, BT isn't played very often at all and Ive never seen them finish in the top 5. and the tournaments regularly have 30 players. I agree that your boy prolly does run train on people in friendly games and that BT are a blast to play and win with. But in the take all comers world of competitive tournaments, BT have been a 3rd tier army for a while. The question is whether access to arguably the best flyer in the game changes that.
@kronk
I think it does man.... for example Space wolves are not a good list right now. they owed 5th ed. as a top 5 codex and now without a flyer they are seriously handcuffed. BT was largely the same way. I think within the next few month we may see BT popping up and being very good purely because they now have excellent air support.

The issue with the Black Templars Codex is not the lack of good, expensive toys. It's a lack of cheap, efficient toys. Our only troops choice is pretty meh, getting fliers of our own does not change that. It's a welcome boost though.

Wow I am starting to get worried....I actually agree with SoloFalcon again....
Adding one unit to an army doesn't make it an uber army suddenly. As with anything else, Black Templars played to their strengths do just fine on the table. They are Space Marines after all...

And because it's not that good when you have to buy grenades as extra. The blob itself is also 260 points base without the Chaplain and without grenades. It's expensive as feth and it's not as though people have been gearing up to kill Marines on foot or anything... oh, wait.
