Hello everyone. My friend is wanting to get into 40k and after reading a lot of the fluff and looking at the models he has decided on Dark Angels and asked me to help him pick his first initial order, the problem is I know NOTHING about Dark Angels so I thought I'd turn to the Daka community for some input.

He wants to start out with around 500 points to get a few games in but mainly have a solid base to build up from.

Any and all input is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi! I would suggest something along the lines of a nice cheap 75 pt typhoon and/or perhaps scouts-for 73pts you get 4 snipers, 1 heavy bolter and melta bombs. Hope this helps.

Honestly for the dollar investment involved you might recommend that he pick up the Dark Angels half of the Dark Vengeance Box set from ebay.
For about $50 you can get x10 tactical marines, x5 Deathwing Terminators, x3 Ravenwing Bikers & the Librarian.

That will provide a solid base from which to experiment and more importantly help your friend identify which units he favors before dumping a ton of money on anything.
No sense buying in a Deathwing or Ravenwing direction only to find out later the grass is greener on the other side

Hope that helps.

There's not a whole lot you can do at 500 points really, but as Plato suggested, Dark Vengeance is a solid foundation for starting a DA force.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I agree with the above comments about the Dark Vengence set and an additional tactical squad. From there your friend can branch out into anything he really wants.

If he can swing it I would suggest getting two sets of the Dark Vengence Dark Angels. That would give him a solid base of models to start with. It would technially give him 4-6 squads (depending on how he puts the squads together in his army list) and 4 (or more if he can get the limited edition DV) HQs (at least two Chapter Masters and two Librarians. If he gets the Limited Edition set twice he would get two chaplins as well.)

All in all a very good base to start with.
