Im having a hard time choosing an army (lizardmen or beastmen) but i was also wondering if these armies are getting a update this year. You know because all these armies are getting these new hard covered army books.

I believe the Lizard book is older than the Beastmen book, but I'm afraid there are no solid ideas on which one will be getting udpated first.

Given their books at the moment, the Lizardmen are easily the more competitive of the two though.

Rumors did mention lizards lately, but it's rumors so i'll just give my standard advice:
Pick the models you like best, since you'll be assembling and painting quite a few of them.

Beastmen were the last army book before the release of 8th. Don't listen to the haters that are a fun and viable army enjoy the glory days of 7th with command that cost less than 10pts each and large magic item options. Overall play the army that you like the beast, I mean best.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

The other posters have got it pretty right.

The Lizardmen book, is older than the Beastmen book and therefore it's safe to assume that the Lizards will get an update first. However, since both armies are fairly new (and viable) and there are many other armies in more need of an update, I doubt either of them will be re-released anytime soon. So, whatever army you choose, you'll have quite a while of playing with them as they are, so go for the one you like best. Remember, aesthetics, theme, playstyle, background and more are all things to consider when choosing your army.

Don't really worry about the releases of new books, unless your huge into tournaments. Most of the guys at my FLGS will let you play with your old book for a while and in fact a couple of guys did a game that went back to like 5th Ed. I think and they both busted out old books and played. So pick the army you like and play away ....there is a kid in our store who plays lizardmen and runs the table quite often, so they are totally viable.

The age of the books doesn't seem to have much impact on release schedules. And why should it? They are a company trying to make money. If WE were made in 1978 but only 2 people play them, they aren't going to bother with a new book when WoC has a bazillion people playing.

Though I hope it's Lizardmen.

High Elves around May, Lizardmen later this year. Dark Elves, then Dwarfs, then Wood Elves (plus 9th edition WHFB) in 2014. No Idea about 2015. Beastmen not this or next year.

Where have you read/heard this? I am tracking up to Lizardmen this year, with Dwarfs next year. But have heard very little with regards to DE, WE or any other army after HE/LM and Dwarfs.

Concerning the named Fantasy releases, it's something Hastings said not so long ago, and I trust his predictions.
