Playing Space Wolves as I do, I should probably know the answer to this question. But because I've always lacked the models, it's never come up for me until now. So here's the question;

Logan Grimnar's special rule "The Great Wolf" says "Wolf Guard units count as troops in any army that includes Logan Grimnar.." Since you're limited to 6 troop choices in a primary detachment, does this mean that you can't have 6 Grey Hunter units AND a wolf guard unit if you include Logan Grimnar?

Always check your FAQ first:

Q: Are Wolf Guard Packs genuine Troops selections in the Force
Organisation chart instead of Elites when fielded in an army with
Logan Grimnar? If so, is this optional? (p82)
A: Yes, they count as Troops and take up Troops Force
Organisation chart selections. This is not an optional choice, so
you can have at most six Wolf Guard Packs in an army with
Logan Grimnar.

There are no stupid questions...

The key is in the wording. Some of the older Codexes had/have it worded as "MAY count as Troop choices", indicating you got the choice. However, more recent Codexes don't have the word may - so there's no option.

It's a good point that different codices have similar rules with wording which makes them significantly different in effect.

The old Belial rules in the previous DA codex, for example, gave you the option of taking each Deathwing squads as either Troops or Elite.

Pedro Kantor makes Sternguard squads Scoring, but doesn't make them Troops. They're still Elite.
