I'm going to start using Terminator Wolf Guard as pack leaders to get a character in for my Grey Hunters, so are they added to the squad (10 Grey Hunters + Pack Leader) or can they only be added to squads with enough free space to deploy them with (9 Grey Hunters + Pack Leader)? I've tried looking it up, but all the discussions have been about the pack embarking in a vehicle.

you can add him despite the size of the squad

"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ

Except obviously in transports that have a maximum capacity.

Any Wolfguard model (regardless of wargear) is added to an existing unit when using the leader of the pack rule. They do not upgrade a different model. But as for vehicles since your talking TDA, that will immediately rule out rhinos and razorbacks, thus leaving you with Landraiders (including variants) and drop pods for the only vehicles you can use.

SW drop pods and the Godhammer Landraider only have a transport capacity of 10. So as such your limited to 8 grey hunters and 1 TDA wolfguard. With the Crusader or Redeemer you can have all 10 grey hunters and the TDA wolfguard.

As to if its a good idea to put a TDA wolfguard into a grey hunter squad the answer IMO is hell yes. But only because of the way wound allocation works in HTH and the inclusion of a wolf banner. For one round, your unit is practically immune to damage as you will get to reroll any failed 2+ saves. Such an awesome wound sponge.

I can understand Razorbacks but why are Rhinos out? It'd be the same capacity of a Drop Pod without scatter risk.

The only vehicle that can transport models in terminator armour is a Landraider. You couldn't put a terminator armoured wolf guard pack leader in a drop pod, razorback or rhino.

Of course, you can put a power armoured wolf guard pack leader in any of these, the limiting factor in transport choice is terminator armour.

Terminators can ride in Drop Pods, it's just that Wolves are the only army that gets the option to.
