Does AP2 and rending on cc weapons affect vehicle pen damage rolls?

AP2 only affects rolls on the damage table. Rending affects vehicles as described in the rending special rule.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Rending only states wounds in CC are resolved at AP2.

Read the last paragraph in rending to see what you do with rolls of a 6 on your armour pen rolls.

Actually, I just learned that I've been doing Rending all wrong in 6th in vs vehicles. Refer to the core rulebook FAQ.

It says that you add D3 but does not say if the AP2 is still in effect.

Can I get a straight answer?

The sections about cc and shooting say that rolls to wound that are a 6 give the weapon AP 2. The final section says on armour pen rolls you get an additional d3. Your attacks cannot be both roll to wound and pen armour. It is one or the other based off what you are attacking.

It's also pretty cut and dry in the FAQ. I would check it out versus using some guy on the internet as your rules reference.

Here is the relevant FAQ answer:

Q: If an attack with the Rending special rule rolls a 6 for their
Armour Penetration roll against a vehicle and subsequently scores
a Penetrating Hit, does that hit count as being AP2 as it would if
the attack rolled a 6 To Wound? (p41)
A: No.

Don't worry about it too much Duct, this is a fairly common mistake. It's fairly safe to assume that when something talks about rolling "to wound" it does not affect vehicles. (You never roll to wound vehicles. You roll to penetrate their armor instead.) Some of the wording in the big book trips me up sometimes too, and that's what this forum is for. Did you have any other questions about Rending, or are you all clear now?
