I have played a wargs(Moria that is not fell wargs) list for quite a while and recently was challenged on rules interpretations, I've always played it so wargs behave like a cavalry model for the purposes of knocking down the enemy but don't get the plus one attack when they charge as wargs who are being ridden don't. As they are on cavalry sized bases I assume they can't be classified as infantry but there is no clarification in the rulebook and I'm not sure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wargs are treated as cavalry as on Pg 51 of the big rule book they are noted under cavalry steeds. When it comes to wargs they do get a charge bonus and if the rider is killed they can take a courage test or use a characters stand fast rule to carry on fighting as unlike horses they get 1 attack. Any mounts that have 1 attack can take a courage otherwise they are removed from play.

Ok thanks that really cleared things up, turns out I've been playing it wrong then, still they will do even better now. Thanks again.

No probs. Wargs basically count as cavalry who knock down and get a charge bonus yet if the rider dies they may carry on fighting.

Were does it say that wrags are cavalry. There infantry with a 10 inch move and 40mm bases. Only when some one is on the wrag does it count as being a cavalry model.

Anyway I would have thought they would follow the cavalry rules as the are Wargs and I dont think they would walk to the enemy.

There was a big debate on the one ring a while back. It was funny reading 20 pages of no they don't.

Let me add another post of No they don't, then! The section "What is a cavalry model?" on p. 49 of the The Hobbit rulebook says that Cavalry models consist of both a rider and a mount and that if the rider and mount are separated then they no longer count as cavalry. A Wild Warg or a Warg that has been separated from its rider do not, therefore, get cavalry bonuses.

My interpretation of this was always that the rider's direction causes the mount to use its weight more than it would be naturally inclined to do, but YMMV. It's pretty cut and dry from a rules perspective, though.

ETA: also, not sure what you mean by "but don't get the plus one attack when they charge as wargs who are being ridden don't." It's totally possible I've missed it, but I don't know of any rule that says that wargs being ridden don't get the cavalry bonus attack when they charge.

I thought that only the rider not the warg got a bonus attack when they charge. This was what I was told by the staff in my local GW but they may have been wrong.

The rider and the warg are the same model when they're cavalry. They don't each get an attack - they are one model that uses the best offensive stats of both. So a warg rider model has one attack in melee combat, or two if it charged.
