Hi all,
I'm one of the many on here who played GW games as a kid, and got back into the hobby as an adult. Since Dark Vengeance came out I've slowly been piecing together a Dark Angels army, which I will be running a WIP blog on here. I should say here that I'm more of a builder and converter than a painter, and more of a modeler than a gamer (I haven't played 40k since 2nd ed!). I will also say that I'm married, a doctor, and have a baby girl on the way (due April 27th) so there are a number of constraints on my gaming time.
I should also confess that though I love an eBay bargain, I spend an unhealthy amount on bitz from Bitzbox.com, one of my favourite places on the interwebs
Here's a force shot to start with:
Not pictured - techmarine on Ravenwing bike WIP, DVtac squad, Land Raider, sniper scout squad
Now, here's the Deathwing Command Squad WIP:
Bases are my own, bits of Welsh slate from my local mountains, PVA glue and some aquarium gravel of various grades
Belial:
and back...
You can see how he's been bulked out with plasticard and GS to make him a bit heftier than your average termie. Head from Anvil Industries
Zazamel:
and back...
Zazamel has a ven dread chest-piece, and a chaos terminator lord power weapon. Head is from Anvil Industries
Alastor:
and back...
Maximillion:
Eremiel:
and back...
In my mind this is what Eremiel is doing:
Next we have my trio of Dreadnoughts, one of my favourite models of the 40k universe
Caspar:
Balthazar:
and back...
You can see the nemesis dreadknight powerplant I used
Melchior:
Skull is from a wall off the Fortress of Redemption sprue. The reliquary is from the new ravenwing command squad set
And here he is with some litanies attached, not sure if I like the effect or not. I was inspired by the FW venerable chaplain dread
So that's about it for the moment. I'd really like to hear people's opinions, critique, comments. I don't hang out with anyone who plays or models really, so the only input I get is from my wife, who is not particularly interested in the hobby! Thanks for reading, and I'll update when I can,
Max
I really like your belial! The green stuff work all around is very nicely done as well and your poses are quite dynamic. very well executed.
I'm undecided about the last dread you've shown, because part of me thinks the rib cage is a little much, but the other part of me thinks it's awesome. And for my personal taste, i'd leave the litanies, but maybe paint them before attaching them so you can get under them to paint.
Really looking forward to seeing all these painted.
I would agree, some really interesting conversion work with the green stuff. I think the dreadknought with the ribcage actually looks quite silly but I suppose It will look great whatever when painted up
Thanks for your comments guys, I appreciate the input.
I didn't state it but thought it was obvious, Melchior is a chaplain ven dread, hence the skull and bones. I wasn't sure myself about the ribcage, still not - I think only paint will tell really.
I think I will leave the litanies off as I like the cathedral detailing on the front of the sarcophagus too much to cover it. I'm thinking sandstone with gold trim for the detailing. Not sure if I can actually pull that off though...
