I'm trying to recreate Aethon Shaan as my Captain for Raven Guard. Sad thing is, in none of the fluff does it state what wargear he has.

So, what I decided on is a relic blade and storm shield. However, I'm trying to come up with ideas on what to do for these.

For the blade, I'm thinking of sort of a spear with the end that has blades that sort of resembles a bird claw or talon.

For the shield, I have NO idea where to start. Since it is Raven Guard, a shield that has the emblem embedded into it would be ideal, but I can't find one that sort of resembles it to work on.

Any ideas would be great.

I would go to the GW site and look through the Warhammer fantasy figs. They tend to have a lot better shields than 40k figures, and they're a bit more prevalent. The shields also have a bit more of a heraldric look, which definitely fits in with the Space Marine look a little better than some of the 40k shields.

As to the spear, I wonder if you couldn't find some kind of giant bird fig, (I know they have those in Warhammer fantasy) saw his leg off, and then bend/cut it down to only three claw-toes, mount your severed bird foot on the end of a pole (I use lollipop sticks, available in your friendly neighborhood craft store's cooking section) and paint it in metallic colors to make it look like a kind of stylized trident? Would that maybe work for you?

Here's some pictures of my figs, where I am using Warhammer fantasy shields, as well as lollipop-stick poles. (The big spear is intended to be a relic blade, in point of fact.)

You know who have awesome blades? The sanguinary guard guys... just file/cut off the BA stuff and you got a wicked ass looking blade.

EDIT: Nevermind... I should have thoroughly read the OP... the Sang dudes don't use spears.... Maybe you can use something from the WoC Knights? They have some wicked awesome long handled weapons.

You could still totally cut the blade off the sanguinary guard swords and attach it to a pole. (Or just cut the handle off if you want to keep the look of the hilt, and if I recall correctly, those are the ones with the winged handguards, so you might wanna include it!) Good suggestion,dj.

For a shield go with chapterhouse studios they make great themed shields. As for a blade maybe try the GK force halberds

('');

I second the Grey Knight Halbreds. The new Deathwing box set has a nice halbred but it may be too ornate for what you want to do. GK have some cool swords too, if you decided to go that route.

Check the fantasy range. Warriors Of Chaos (as mentioned) is full of great conversion bits, as are Empire.

Forge World does sell Raven Guard transfers and brass etch, so I would probably find a shield shape I like and then augment it with either of those things for the iconography.
