A friend of mine is new to fantasy and he asked me to point him up an army. He wants to theme the army after the Lannisers of Casterly Rock from Game of Thrones. Im not sure how competative the army is but I am looking more for synergy and fun than direct competativeness.

2500 Lannister Elves

Lords

Archmage
-Lvl 4 (Life)
-The Seerstaff of Saphery
-Folariath’s Robe
-335
I figure a life mage gives him survivability and versatility in spell selection for his units.

Prince
-General
-Barded Elven Steed
-Blade of Sea Gold
-Charmed Shield
-Vambraces of Defense
-283
Model that represents Tywin Lannister so he focused more on defense than offense. Not to mention with the right buffs from the mages he cuould be brutal.
Total: 618

Heroes
Mage
-Lvl 2 (Beasts)
-Silver Wand
-145
Assists the life mage in buffing the army to keep it alive.

Noble
-Bsb
-Dragon Armor
-Shield
-Great Weapon
-Talisman of Preservation
-171
Total: 316

Core
I figure a good mix of ranged and melee would suit him well.

35 Spearmen
-Full Command
-340

14 Archers
-154

12 Archers
-132
Total: 626

Special

9 Dragon Princes
-Full Command
-320
color=red]Unit for Tywin to roll around in. Properly buffed should be a nasty hammer.[/color]

Lion Chariot
-140

Lion chariots are hard and thematic I think they should do well.

Lion Chariot
-140

17 White Lions
-Full Command
-Banner of Sorcery
-335
I wish I could fit more but the Bsb goes here and the unit should make a good anvil and hammer unit.

Total: 935
Army Total: 2495

Looks fairly good for a fun and themed army, though I have a few things.

Firstly, word of warning that a Prince is generally not the best option. Since it's a themed army it doesn't matter, but just be aware that you'll be thin on the ground on models as a result of taking two Lords and that your Prince might not work as well as you perhaps would think. If you are set on your Prince, I'd swap out his current weapon for the Star Lance. It has the same effect, as well as giving you +3 Strength on the turn you charge, so you'll be hitting at a great S7. True, the effects only last for a single turn, but if your DPs don't break through a unit in one turn, they're in trouble anyway.

I wouldn't bother with the Champion in the DPs. It's too much to pay for an extra attack, and you could get another White Lion and a five point magic item. I'd also consider dropping one of the Lion Chariots since they're not that great and one still retains the theme. The points would be much better spend buffing up that White Lion unit.

I told him about the lance and he thought the sword would be more thematic. Same with the chariots (which can still hit like a ton of bricks when they need to).

Fair enough, Make sure he gets to learn how those chariots function. They are good if they're used correctly but can be a right failure if they're not.

With a new codex about to drop, you might want to tell your friend to hold off buying for a month or so. Get the rule book and read and re read and read some more. The high elf dex is going to change big time.

I will quote on the list later on.

I would suggest having the BSB on a mount, so he can ride with the prince and get the helm of fortune+guardian phoenix build with GW. Then I would switch the DP's to 12 Silver Helms FC, since their main job is to escort the two characters. Besides, I don't the Lannisters would look to kindly on a unit in their army named after the dragon

Tarval did make a good point that the new codex will be coming out very soon. My hope is the silver helms become core
