"Humans are no strangers to war. After all, we've been fighting for as long as we can remember. War is all we know. In the past, we fought for Imulsion. We fought for country. We fought for freedom. But all that changed after E-Day. For 15 years, we've been fighting for our very survival against inhuman, genocidal monsters. But it is a fight we cannot continue. Humanity faces extinction, unless we end this war now. We had hoped the Lightmass bombing would decimate the Locust Horde, but they survived… and have returned stronger than ever. They've brought with them a force that can sink entire cities. Even Jacinto, our last beacon of hope through all these dark days, is now at risk. Soon we’ll have nothing left to defend, and that means we have only one option… attack. Gears, what I ask of you now is not an easy thing, but it is necessary. If we are to survive… if we are to live long enough to see the seasons pass, our children grow, and experience a time of peace that we have never known… we must now take this fight to the Locust. We will go to where they live and where they breed… and we will destroy them! This is the day we take the battle to the heart of the enemy! This is the day that we correct the course of human history! This is the day we ensure our survival as a species! Soldiers of the COG, my fellow Gears, go forth and bring back the hope of humanity!" - Chairman Richard Prescott
Hey guys!
Getting back into the hobby (well 6 months back into it after a 2 year break) I thought I'd revamp my old Gears of War army. I started it a while ago but didn't have money, time or attention spare (I was 15, currently 17). I actually found this site from trying to find Gears of War conversions.
Please note that Im in my final year of high school (Year 12 if you're Australian like me) so may not post during the week. Though I will try to add fillers from other project if I don't give you guys your weekly update of Gears
The First Soldier
First off, we've got a basic soldier.
He was made from the torso and arms of a Space Marine Scout, legs and head were donated from a standard Space Marine.
His Lancer assault rifle (described as the workhorse weapon of the Coalition of Governments) was made from a Scout's bolter. I cut away the straps and fitted a shortened chainswords over the grip. The muzzle brake of the standard bolter was replaced with a lasrifle barrel and the magazine was replaced with that of a lasrifle's.
Standard Soldier:
Lancer:
The Sniper
Next, we have a sniper in the process of throwing a Bollo grenade.
Made much like the trooper but with a Dark Angels helmet.
The rifle is just a standard Tau rifle.
The grenade is made from a Chaos Warrior's mace. Before you judge the grenade, in Gears of War, the grenades are much like German WW2 grenades but with spikes to wedge it into the hated Locust Horde grunts.
Sniper:
"Frag out!"
Longshot:
"Boom! Headshot!"
JACK
This would have to be one completely original conversion that is staying the same from my previous Gears project. Its JACK!! The Jack of All Trades utility robot. Fitted with a long range radio and multitude of tools including a miniature oxy-cutter.
I made JACK out of a Tau command node from the Apocalypse vehicle command sprue. The eyes are binoculars from the Basilisk tank set. And can't remember where the arms are from, the command sprue also? :S
Also sorry, I couldn't focus the camera on him properly.
Jack:
"JACK, rip that door open."
Troika
A Troika twin-linked fixed machine gun. Able to lay down a tremendous amount of fire.
It was simply built from the twin heavy bolter from the Dark Angels landspeeder, mounted on the bracket for an Imperial Basilisk tank's dozer blade.
Troika:
The Project So Far
Group photos:
Coming Soon...
Movement trays from another project? Blasphemy!
Don't let the tanks be misleading..
'Til next comment, fair well!

Update!! Sorry for the time since the original post, have got my half yearly exams next week.
Good news. I have ordered Catachan parts, Scout torsos and chainswords. Also got some money to buy a Tactical Squad meaning I will be able to add 10 new additions to the slowly building Coalition of Governments force.
Also, sorting through parts I have been able to construct Colonel Victor Hoffman, leader of the COG military. Yes, I know. He's a bit rag tag in terms of part's quality like the previous Gears but fresh and new parts will be in soon and will hopefully be able to have 'cleaner' looking soldiers.
A modification to how I'm assembling them will be to have the soldiers bearing Marine arms instead of Scout arms due to it looking more along the lines of the actual COG armour.
Colonel Victor Hoffman
The leader of the military was constructed from a Scout torso, Marine arm (single arm currently), Scout shotgun with an Imperial lasgun pistol grip and an Imperial Guard tank crew Officer head.
Colonel Hoffman:
Brotherhood of Steel Scouts
Just for something fun, I thought I'd share with you, guys, my three Brotherhood of Steel Scouts. The Tau symbol on the shoulder pads will be filled into so that I can paint on the chapter badge.
Assembled from Scout legs and heads, Guardsmen torsos, Tau arms (with replaced hands when possible), packs, shoulder pads and weapons. Better equip than the BOS Scouts in New Vegas but I thought it suited them better. Possible they could be set in the 40k era and that explains the weapons. The Space Marines fight the Tau to a point that all that are left are Tau scientists. At a last desperate attempt to survive, the Tau agree to reveal the secrets of and share they're technology. In the process, enlightening the chapter to a new truth (as according to the Tau): Technology is the way forward. (Not my real world beliefs but is definitely a controversial topic of today which is "Is God the answer?". In this case it's the Emperor.)
Anyway, here they are.
Scouts:
Future Components
Sneak peek at parts for future COG troops and parts for Chairman Richard Prescott (political leader of the COG).
See ya next post.
Aussie Rinzler Automatically Appended Next Post: Sitting here thinking, I figured I could find a better model to use for Chairman Prescott and after a bit of searching, I found HasselFree Miniatures ( http://www.hfminis.co.uk/).
Chairman Richard Prescott
"And the winner to be the up and coming Chairman Prescott is..... Admiral Edwards!!"
Chairman Prescott:
Lieutenant Anya Stroud
Whilst browsing on the same site, the perfect miniature for the communication officer, Anya Stroud came along. This lovely young miniature goes by the name of Morgan, coming in from the range of Modern Adventurers.

I have a number of updates and heavy improvements upon my original miniatures as well as partial additions. Photos will be up tomorrow.
Having playing the original Gears of War again, I'm going to be building my force around the structure in the first Gears. The rules will be based upon the Grey Knights (for the moment I'm going of the Daemon Hunters Codex until I buy the newer edition). I plan on fielding Alpha squad and Delta squad as the focus of the army and using them as Grey Knight Terminators.
Alpha Squad
Cpl. Damon Baird
Pvt. Augustus Cole
Pvt. Fredric Rojas
Pvt 'Redshirt' Gyules
Unknown Gear (Will come with a name for him but in the game their is a random Gear at the Battle of the Tomb of Unknowns
Delta Squad
Lt. Minh Young Kim
Sgt. Marcus Fenix
Cpl. Dominic Santiago
Anthony Carmine
I am also beginning to gather parts to build the the Tomb of the Unknowns (the very awesome ambush in which Kim is killed by RAAM).
Just this little update until tomorrow.

As promised, new photos. Today we have the new rendition of the Sniper instead appearing as a Soldier with Lancer, going by the name of 'Redshirt Gyules' (Alpha Squad), and the original Soldier now equip with a Mulcher minigun, known as Fred Rojas (Alpha Squad).
Pvt. Fredrick Rojas
Constructed as how the original solider was, the only difference is that instead he's been moved onto a fresh pair of Marine legs and is fitted with the Scout bolter. The bolter has had it's muzzle break replaced with the rotating barrels of a minigun from the Dark Angel's Landspeeder. The left leg has been slightly re positioned to add somewhat of a pose.
His base has been constructed from the broken arch way from the Warhammer Giant set and then debris from sprue and sand. All mounted onto a 40mm base.
Rojas:
Base:
Pvt. 'Redshirt' Gyules
Similar the original sniper but instead, like Rojas, has fresh legs and also has a Lancer fitted into Marine arms. The base hasn't been finished yet.
Gyules:
Sgt. Marcus Fenix
Fenix is only WIP. I have repositioned the legs to produce a more heroic pose, inspiration from the Gears of War 2: Concept Art book.
The base isn't finished but I thought I'd explain what I've done on it so far. I have taken the stone disk from the Giant set and flipped it over to the bare face. Using 2 pairs of wings from the Dark Angels' Vehicle sprue, it formed a cog symbol and to finish it off, a skull was added to the middle, taken from the Imperial Guard tank iconography.
Fenix:
JACK
Ok, as you can tell from my typing, I'm tired and therefore can't be bothered to explain the new incarnation of JACK. Also WIP.
JACK:
Anyway folks, I'm off to catch some Z's. Got a Mathematics half-yearly exam on Friday and need to be ready.
Until next post,
Aussie Rinzler

Some painting updates this post, folks! Ok, so it's not the best painting I know but I'm trying to reteach myself and try to improve from the basic painting from the 14 year old me.
Pvt. Fredrick Rojas
Base painted with the stone painted with Bestial Brown followed by the whole base drybrushed with Fortress Grey. Then the stone was washed with heavily watered Abaddon Black (I think that's the paint's name, off the top of my head). Lastly, lightly drybrushed again with Fortress Grey.
Rojas was painted with Hawk Turquoise, the washed multiple times with heavily watered Black to pick out the armour details and "grub it up". I can't remember the rest of the painting but yeah, I assume the basic details are enough.
The armour looks too clean so next time, I'll be drybrushed the Turquoise sparingly to make the armour have a far more worn look.
Rojas:
Pvt. 'Redshirt' Gyules
As you can see, I've painted the base and am still to start on the actual miniature. Anyway, I essentially wanted to have him figthing on the street so all the pieces on the base were chosen because they are temporary items e.g. fuel and ammo. To further the look, I painted a road line. Now, road lines are typically white. I figured white wasn't a distinguished enough colour and instead used yellow.
Gyules:
The Hammer of Dawn
This one is still in it's early stages and currently looks more like a motor bike than an orbiting laser. It's a satellite equip with an energy beam. If I could get a rain check on force organisation, is the Orbital Strike still apart of the Grey Knights force or has it been removed?
The Hammer:
Next post, I'll hopefully have part of a terrain piece from the Gears of War setting online posted with photos. I'm off to bed now. Maths exam tomorrow. Wish me luck!!
Aussie Rinzler.

Been a while (have just had a Chemistry exam, Physics exam, Maths exam and Engineering exam) but his time I've got updates also, model parts should be here in a few days. In terms of somethign physical, here you go:
Onyx Guard Sniper
In the Gears universe, the COG seem to only have one special forces group. That being the the Onyx Guard. Here we have is an Onyx Guard sniper, whom I'll be using as an Vindicare Assassin. He was constructed from old Space Marine biker legs, Scout head and torso, Space Marine arms, Imperial Guard hands and bags, Tau rifle (fitted with a Space Marine scope). The rifle, figure and base will all be glued together after painting.
Sniper
The Tomb of Unknowns
Part of a greater terrain piece, this just one room of the whole tomb (walls need to be added).
Tomb:
Also, here's a shot at the miniatures planned and sorted (sorry that it is sideways):
Cya next post,

So a week ago, I got in the parts I ordered from Ebay which has allowed me to make a lot of progress with the army.
I had ordered Scout torsos, chainswords and 2 sprues of Catachan soldiers. The photos are a bit blurry.
But cutting straight to the chase. In the past week I've been complutely built Marcus, Cole and Baird. Dom is most of the way completely (the photos of him don't reflect that).
Marcus Fenix
So Marcus has been made from Marine legs (as seen previously), a Scout torso (the wings shaved off), Marine arms (including the bolt pistol arm), a Catachan head (with bandana) and a bolter (that has has been modified with a chainsword and lasgun).
Marcus:
Damon Baird
Baird, like the other COG miniatures, is built from Marine legs and a Scout torso as a base. He has Marine arms and a Catachan head (with glasses because it's the closest I could get). He's equip with a suppressed bolt pistol and a Lancer. To put im more into character, I decided to use the centre piece of a Tau drone as a portable hard drive due to its likeness to the hard drives seen in Gears of War e.g. the one that has the Locus tunnel map, found in Fenix Estate.
Baird:
Augustus Cole
The Cole Train, baby?
Again, standard COG body. He has Catachan arms, a Catachan head (the head band was shaved off) and was equip with a Lancer and the Sonic Resonator (the top halves of two Marine backpacks glued together with a High Elf gem in the centre).
Cole:
Dominic Santiago
Not finished but Dom has been built on a COG body and has Catachan arms (these have been shorten) and fitted with Scout bracers and is equip with a Lancer (the chainsaw hasn't been added yet). Not seen in the photos is that he has a shotgun mounted to his back (it has a new pistol grip and the pump-action has been slightly modified) and short sleeves have been added.
Dom:
Th- th- th- th that's all, folks.
