I noticed after ordering it from Amazon that this warpack has 3 light warbeasts and all other starters on warmahordes have 1 heavy warbeast/jack.

Are the trolls weaker against other starter box? I even ordered a Dire Troll Mauler just so that i'd be able to have a balanced match against my friends Scyrah starter.

It is a bit odd that the Warpack comes with no Heavy Warbeasts

Though it really all depends, you could run a light beast only list if you wanted

It isn't weaker, its more odd than anything else. A troll army will rarely run more than one Impaler.

Against other boxes, the Impalers are useful for that Critical Slam which can be pretty powerful at low points.

The Axer hits hard enough to damage even heavies pretty severly.

It is down a point from other battleboxes. The issue is you kinda want at least 3 beasts in the box and its not really possible with Trolls as their heavies are all pretty expensive.

True, a different light like a Slag might have been a bit more useful

Could swap one Impaler for a Slag Troll to bring the box to 11 points. That would make it even with other boxes.

Another factor may be that PP didn't want to put more than 2 animi in the battleboxes.

Other than the 2 player box Circle force, they all have 2 animi, and a duplicated light/lessers.

I don't feel it is less powerful once you understand what to do with it, but the learning curve is steeper, especially if you are playing vs warmachine in addition to hordes.
There is a value in a tough warlock at a points level where you don't usually have back up attacks.

Plus his thrown axe is just brutal. Crit slam a beast over their warlock, and go to town.

A friend plays trolls, and usually he is running 5-6 lights, no heavies. It makes killing the Warlock very tough, since he can transfer to so many.
There is definitely a fury multiplier for alpha strike when you have a bunch of lights.

Yea, Troll Lights still pack a mean punch. In fact you might even catch some opponent off guard who are expecting a dire troll

There is a bit of a cost jump between the troll lights and their heavies. So you can get almost twice as many lights as heavies.

Great info!

So will a fight against a Scyrah starter feel even then?

Aye, in fact 2 Swamp Trolls are 1pt cheaper than a Mauler (though I'm not sure if you'll need 2 swamp trolls)

I don't think it will be that odd of a matchup. the impalers should be able to go toe to toe with the Ret lights. maybe even have the advantage on the range attack. Tag team on the Ret heavy or go straight for the Kaelyssa with your warlock. Madrak should be able to overwhelm Kaelyssa in melee.
