Hey guys, I have an established grey knights army, and want to add some leman russ's to beef it up a bit. I was wondering what you guys thought would be a good allied detatchment of imperiail guard that would add some pie plates. I intend to use death korps of krieg infantry because cadians are eyesores in my opinion, and death korps are very expensive, so I'd prefer to go light on infantry. Thanks in advance.

Well I would recommend an infantry blob, but you said you wanted to go light on the infantry, so instead I'd take melta or plasma vets for your troops, . and put them in a vendetta. Do you want a russ? or a pie plate? Because pie plate russ without lumbering behemoth is just a poor substitute for artillery. I'd rather take a basilisk or a medusa, but if you want a russ, the Exterminator is cool. The Executioner is nice, but pricey. In all cases it would help if you also have 3 psyflemen dread so there are other armored targets.

Melta/plasma CCS in a Vendetta, veterans with plasma/LC/Harker/camo cloaks on a quad gun (2+ save objective holders), Marbo, and a squadron of 2x LR Demolishers or 2x Medusa. Total of 14 infantry models and a heavy weapon team.

Or, if you don't mind having a few more infantry models:

Melta/plasma CCS in a Vendetta, platoon with {cheap PCS on a quad gun, 2x infantry squads with melta and LC, and as many LC Sabre guns as you can buy}, and the same heavy support options.

What kind of GK are you doing?

If you're already running a henchmen army, then I'd just add another units of vets in a chimera. If you're going with something elite, then perhaps a small infantry platoon.

I would run Veterans with melta / plasma. Vendettas will also help for what you are looking for. If you want a Leman Russ go with the Demolisher, pie plate strength 10 AP 2.

Just to clarify, I am running my GK with all terminators for troops, a stormraven, an inquisitor with divination, interceptors, a vindicare and dreadnaughts

Alright guys, new topic, same army. With your help, I have decided to field a full squadron of leman russ's. my question is, what kind? The demolisher is scary, and people will put their terminators out of sight, and out of the battle. It will most likely do the same to their land raiders. However, 24" is short. There is then the battle tank that eliminates that problem altogether. Unfortunately, insane range comes at the price of two strength and one ap. a huge downside in my opinion. After all, several people at my shop play death wing, but they keep their terminators out of the demolisher's range until that flyer thing of theirs can take the Russ's down. There is the executioner, which can be mean with an extra 12" and sponson plasmas. Of course, that's at minus three strength from the demolisher. I want to make sure this squadron is well round for the role it performs, be it long range artillery fire, or front line anhilalators. Any squadron combination you guys have would be appreciated.
