I'm still relatively new to the game, and after poking around I think Skorne might be the right fit for me because I love how their models look and from what I've read they hit like a tonne of bricks and can take a lot of punishment. I'm particularly interested in the Cataphract and Praetorian units, what warcaster goes best with those? Any other info on the faction would also be greatly appreciated.

Depends on which units specifically.

Xerxis likes Cetrati and Karax for example. Other casters like other types.

You might like the Xerxis Brick playstyle. Its pretty much a bunch of shield wall units marching up the board with rediclious armor and defense values.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

As GT said, Xerxis. He's arguably the best infantry caster for Skorne, if not tied with Makeda.

He runs cataphracts, praetorians, nihilators and venators rather well with defense ward, inhospitable ground and fury for spells, can give battle orders and infantry see through each other in his command area. Top this off with his feat that he stole from the Butcher and he can be quite a reckoning to an opponent.

As a side note, I would hold off on buying cataphracts until they are released in plastic. The metals are highly prone to breaking and not fitting together.

Xerxis seems pretty boss. Are the Cataphract models going plastic soon, or is it just wishlisting?

Two of the three flavors of Cataphracts are in plastic and have been previewed if not released:
