Army of 2 is designed around playing with a friend. It's an awesome game, though iirc it's over-the-shoulder.

This. Also, if you're a fan of any of the Call of Duty games fairly certain that CoD:MW2 & MW3 have* some Co-op modes.World at War is also another great Co-op player game.

Only one of those is a FPS, but certainly are good co-op.

Call of Duty as co-op game? Not really.

Erm....... Spec-ops?! MW2 and 3 have some of the best co-op missions there are, if a little too few. I would recommend Army of two 2, you can pick it up for real cheap and it has a pretty fun 'Gun-smithing' element. Also i would recommend Splinter cell: conviction the co-op campaign is very brief but it is ALOT of fun.

Really? No bodies said medal of honor warfighter? You fight in fireteams (teams of two). An amazing game made better by some one else.

Battlefield 3, smokes CoD in every aspect. Borderlands 1 and 2 are hilariously awesome and if you don't mind over-the-shoulder GoW series is damn awesome too.

It amazes me how many people are throwing out non-FPS games.

And I also heard that Warfighter had some decent co-op, but I don't know from personal experience. I was going to recommend Halo 4, but you already have that

Disregarding the thread title the OP only really says he wants something 'along the same lines' as Aliens:CM, i dont know what that game's like but he mentions gear unlocks etc. Tbh were i in his position i would be happy with any co-op recommendations.

OT: Heads up with borderlands 2 (no pun intended) The menus are horrible in splitscreen. They don't fit and when you do manage to slowly drag them into view the text is so small. Also you'll need to be careful about what you pick up, trading items is needlessly complicated, share out the loot before you pick it up. Also bear in mind there is zero(negligible) synergy in the game so don't worry about balancing roles/weapons etc.

Left 4 Dead 2 is the only other game that I can think of off the top of my head that you can play co-op and is a FPS. Wait, there's Counter-Strike: GO as well.

I know that you said FPS but does it ONLY have to be a FPS (and out of curiousity, why)? There are some good third-person view games that play well in co-op.

Oh and when you say co-op, do you mean split-screen co-op (as in you're all sitting on the same couch) or do you mean co-op games that you can play with friends over XBox Live?

mean over Xbox live co-op sorry, and the fps is due to it being my brother in law's prefered type of game to play, and since i like them myself it doesn't worry me that's all we co-op through.

Borderlands 2 is a lot of fun, Army of Two the 40th day or wait a few days for Army of Two the Devil's Cartel, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Halo 4, Kane & Lynch 2 (It isn't that good, but you will have a good laugh.), Dead Island (Buggy as hell). And this is just a small list.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Battlefield 3's co op mode is horrid, and I say that as a fan. Playing together in a squad on competitive is fun, but not the same.

Games I recommend in this order.

Borderlands 2 (1 takes forever to get going)

Left 4 dead 2 (screw weapon unlocks, you'll like it, its what colonial marines should be like)

Halo games (havent played any past 3 sorry)

Call of duty, zombies mode and spec ops (if you can put up with the meh CoD games, since the "worse" ones have the better co op modes)

If I can think of others I'll edit them in. Good coop games are hard to find these days.

Halo 4 has Spartan Ops. It's just a second campaign, actually.

Gotcha. Does he have a preference in games like Battlefield 3 where you can be on the same team and you play against other people or you thinking more of games where you play together against the game/AI?

Another game that has co-op play is Portal 2.
Half-Life 2: Orange Box has Team Fortress 2 included in it as well, I believe.

I wouldn't recommend TF2 on the 360. Great on PC, poor on Xbox.

The orange box is great, but not co-op sadly.

thenoobbomb ir right about Spartan Ops too.

He's a fan of both us in same team, and doesn't mind Vsing othe rplayers but seems to like campaigns and the likes.

@MrMoustaffa I agree, I've ben gaming for decades now,and personally good co-op games seem to be getting rarer.

I do like the idea of LFD as i played it before, not sure if he's into zombies but will try. Sadly portal isn't his cup of tea (But is mine so I play it elsewhere)

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

black ops has a decent co-op multiplayer experience. If they have it for 360, star wars battlefront 2 is still my favorite shooter that has co-op.

EDIT: Halo reach is ok, I don't know about halo 4.

Get Left 4 dead 2. It's like 20 bucks, you can get all the maps from the first L4D, and it has more weapons, gear, and zombie types. It is ABSOLUTELY worth the money, especially if you have friends to play with it.

I'm looking up other games in my collection to see if I've got some more cool games that were fun for co op. Bulletstorm had a cool mode where you had to work together to get good better scores, but I wouldn't pay a lot for it. Might be better for a rental.

Dead Island is neat in co op, but it feels more like if you were playing Fallout or Skyrim in co op ("ok we collected the 5 water bottles for the one quest, now lets go get that one dude his inhaler", aka it feels like you're just running errands at times.)

Portal 2 has an awesome co op. Absolutely worth the cost.

That's about all I can think of. I'm literally listing every single game with a co op mode at this point. Kind of sad, co op games are my favorite games ever.

If you're open to non shooter games, buy Castle Crashers (for xbox live) or Scott Pilgrimm vs the World (sitting side by side on the couch) both games are a ton of fun and only like 10 bucks. They're great beat em ups and are a ton of fun. They remind me Teenage Mutant ninja turtles: Turtles in Time, or the old Simpsons beat em up. Some of my favorite co op experiences have been playing beat em ups.

I love Left 4 Dead 2. If you play online you can get the mutations and they are some fun and some challenging variations to the main game play.
