The one everyone knows and loves... Opinions about the game? Best moments? I'm looking to throw up a game and am looking for a bit of inspiration...
On a more serious note, I'd like to know people's opinions on it in 6th. Thanks in advance guys

Apocalypse is great! There's nothing more satisfying than putting a blast template the size of a dinner plate over a couple of enemy units and obliterating them utterly! Enemy land raider with all round armour 14? No problem - hit it with a turbo laser! Just had a squad of 20 troops incinerated? No worries - you've got another 200 troops left! Just make sure you keep the whole day clear.

My favorite seeing 8 Land Raider charge in unison to attack a chaos fortified town.
Oh and later in that game when the Chaos Reaver Titan went critical it anihilated everything on the board except for a single DA vet with a Storm Shield.

There were 17 railguns accross the table. I lose only 2 hull points over the whole game.
They needed to hit, pen/glance my voids, then I got a 4+ invuln to save my shields.

Ban "Careful Planning" and "Flank March." Seriously, score them out and throw them away. The same could be said of the Disrupter Beacon as well.
Completely ignore the whole 'bidding for deployment time' thing. It's a load of rubbish, roll off as normal and instead just give a certain max time for deployment, anything that doesn't gets chucked into reserve.
Using the current 40k objective rules (scoring / denial units) does better than the Apocalypse version. - It lets normal dudes still have an impact on the game.

Make sure you get the 6th edition update, otherwise the game won't work properly: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/a/apoc6thupdate.pdf .
In addition to banning flank march, make the following changes:
1) Ban anything that causes night fighting. This wasn't a problem when Apocalypse was written, but the ability for Necrons to create night fighting at will means that no unit will ever shoot outside 36". On a normal game table with FOC restrictions this is annoying but can be beaten, in an Apocalypse game with no FOC limits (so unlimited uses of night fighting) and a giant table it pretty much destroys the game. And in combination with the special character you spend a huge amount of time resolving lightning attacks and a cheap character ends up killing thousands of points worth of models every turn.
2) Ban the ork pulsa rokkit. This unit has the absolute worst ratio of dice rolled to damage done. It slows the game down significantly, while doing less damage than just bringing lots of guns and killing stuff. One of them will make everyone on the other team very unhappy, and a player who spams them (easily done) will ruin the entire game.
3) Use pre-placed terrain. Don't even attempt to use the 6th edition alternating terrain placement rules on an Apocalypse-size table. It just won't work.
4) Use 5th edition objective rules. You're only going to get 2-3 turns, so that's not really enough time to get a transport across the table and disembark troops to score an objective, and without the protection of a transport infantry will just be wiped off the table. Same with contesting, if only disembarked infantry can contest objectives you're going to find it very difficult to contest anything if someone is fortunate enough to get a scoring unit onto an objective, so rather than a battle between small fast units around the objective you're just going to have a titan wipe out everything within 12" of it.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

5) Limit effects to certain distances, like Imotekh, Eldar Rune sof Warding, etc.. Maybe 48" or something.
6) If the table is very deep and/or wide, consider allowing players to place infantry further forward so they actually get to charge/do something instead of just walking and getting shot to pieces. Tanks/super-heavies deploy as usual.
7) Keep the scoring simple (either a few objectives or plain unit kills,etc..)
