I've just had a look on the GW website, and have spotted their new chaos daemons codex is up for preorder, and I'm wondering whether I should start a daemon army. The models look good, but about half the range is finecast, which I'm not seeing in a favourable light at the moment, and the codex is no £30, and in hardback (which makes it harder to transport). To get a deciding factor, I have a few questions to ask:

1) For those of you who have bought the currently available models, are they good quality and worth the money?
2)Does the daemon army look set to do reasonably well in this edition?
3) what are your thoughts on the codex being hardback and £30?

1. The new models won't ship until this weekend. I can't comment on the quality or their usefulness on the table. The recent Dark Angels Terminator box is absolutely brilliant, but expensive.
2. The book isn't out yet. The leaked details are few and far between. I can't answer that, yet.
3. There have been a lot of threads on hard back codecies since the Dark Angels and Chaos Space Marines were also released in hardback. I really like the quality, but I think the books are $5 to $10 over-priced. Here is the most recent thread on the subject.

If you're not sure I'd wait and see what feedback is like once we've got our grubby hands on it. The old codex is quite good, but it will be interesting to see how they've improved it (or not as the case may be). I've got quite a few of the plastic kits (bloodletters, blood crushers, daemonettes, soul grinder) and I think they're pretty good. As for £30 hardback - it looks like all codexes are going that way...

In the frozen land of Nador they were forced to eat Robin’s minstrels. And there was much rejoicing.

1. GW stuff is almost always high-quality and great to build.
2. We really have no idea. The codex isn't out yet.
3. For the answer to this, see the complaints threads about the Chaos and Dark Angels codexes.

The Daemons can deploy on the field and can avoid warpquake, but no longer have eternal warrior. You must still bow down to your Grey Knight overlords.

I need to return some video tapes.

Guess I'll be doing what other daemon players have done since the creation of the GK, just not playing them

I've also just found out that the Daemon Princes have been moved into the HQ section of the site... Interesting, they used to be HS.

1) I like the current models; although I don't have much. I have bloodletters, pink horrors, daemonettes, skulltaker, flamers and a soul grinder. The only draw back was the weighting on the banners for the bloodletters and pink horrors. If you use the banners then the models are very much off balance and easy to knock over.

2)Who knows, codex isn't out. We have a few leaked things but until the whole thing is digested and play tested it's impossible to answer.

3) I like the hard back codexes. The previous ones didn't stand up to very much use. I eneded up hole punching them and put them into binders. That worked out quite well. However, the new hard backs have a nice feel to them. So far the only wear I've seen has been some crumpled edges where they got bumped too hard. Regardless, I haven't seen torn or frayed pages yet. I have the CSM and Crusade of Fire hard backs. The other codexes I've been getting on the iPad when they come out. Right I'm trying to decide if I want the hardback, ipad version or both for Daemons.
