Heavy Support
79 - Obliterator - MoN, VotLW
79 - Obliterator - Mon, VotLW
175 - Forgefiend w// Hades autocannons
1001 Points. I know the gift probably isn't best suited to the warpsmith, however I believe it would be better than giving him a combi melta/plas. There really wasn't anywhere else to spend the rest of the points except for another 2 cultists. Let me know how you guys thinkg this list will stack up in terms of effectiveness.

You have a CC character with no cc unit to join.
Your firesupport dread doesn't know what it wants to shoot at.
Your troops are paper thin with point heavy upgrades.
Your HS and FA are all that's good in the list. But even they don't coherently pull in the same direction.

Care to make that criticism constructive?

If you're going to take a CC character get some sort of CC unit to put him in. Otherwise stick with a Sorcerer or DP.
If you want a firesupport dread take complimentary weapons preferably identical ones. As per through codex there are no good fire support options. Forgefiends and predators fulfil this role far better.
Your troops choices are Ld7 and bs3 so buying expensive shooting upgrades like autoguns and shotguns. The flamers are good drop the other upgrades. But you need more staying power in your troops or you need a list that is going to table its opponents.
As for what your list does as a whole I don't know. It seems sort of a firebase but I don't know what it out shoots? Is there a central plan to the list? Also you've got oblits with warpsmith and 2 FS vehicles meaning your opponents target priority is easy

I would say swap the auto guns off of one of those cultist units but keep the flamers so that you have a half decent, cheap combat unit and throw your warp smith in there if you are set on the warp smith(I assume you want to keep the smith for the iron warriors theme you seem to be aiming for). I don't see that dread being super effective at anything really just because of its semi mis-matched weapons. Maybe drop the missile launcher for a ccw and flamer to make an anti infantry monster with a light vehicle wrecking capability. I'm not a huge fan of the forgefiend in general so I'm just my going to comment on that because I am overly bias, neither fiend has ever done squat for me and I find they are huge fire magnets that get destroyed very quickly for their price tags. Heldrake with bale flamer is a given, this unit pays its points in every game of a least 1500 points. In 1000 points you may end up kicking yourself if it doesn't show up right away which in my case seems to always happen when I need it. If you are completely set on these units and how you want to use them it's not a bad list but I personally wouldn't call it competitive, more like a fun themed list. My lists personally look nothing like this but I play emperors children so really ou have to do what works for you personally and use what you like. Hope this helps at least a little.

You have very squishy troops, give them a lord or sorcerer if you really want to take them so they don't run off the board. The warpsmith can be nice but he has no where to go in this list.
The dread needs a better weapon configuration, with its current one it will have trouble deciding what to shoot. I reccomend either take identical weapons, or just go straight cc (I know that's a little pricy but 6th ed csm dreads don't have much).
Oblitz and a helldrake can never really go wrong.
Overall, think about taking stronger troops, because funny enough you have a csm list lacking actual chaos marines.
Hope this helps and sorry if spelling is off somewhere.

This is my Leman Russ. There are many out there like it, but this one is mine. Without it, I am useless. Without me, it is useless.
Obliterators: They've got a gun for that. |

You need more regular chaos space marines to take objectives 2 squads of cultists will get picked apart over the course of the game.

I know this is a few days late, but I just want to add a few things. first I think the theme of the list is very cool, you've got a dark mechanicum list here, with lots of daemon engines, and your opponent may very well not have enough anti tank to deal with it all. I actually like the Warp Smith, he can sit in a big cultist block giving them leadership 10, and he can place himself behind the Forge Fiend / Dread and repair any hull point damage they take making your list more durable than most mech. Don't take gift of mutation though, is far too random. Mark of Nurgle would be better and cheaper since +1 toughness that is always on is just plain nice to have. I agree that the Dread is a bit all over the place. I didn't mention it in your first list, because you said its the FW dread and I totally understand that you want to run it. That said, if it is possible it would be better with a Reaper Auto Cannon + Missile. That specializes your Dread a bit more for dealing with light-medium vehicles. I also agree that you would be better served with a squad of 10 CSM in a rhino. That gives you another vehicle hull on the table, and CSM are much more reliable at going out and taking objectives from the enemy then Cultists will ever be. You can even arm the rhino with a combi melta or a havoc launcher for some extra shooting power. That said I do not think its a bad list, you've got a lot of vehicles on the table, most of which are pretty durable, between the 5+ invuln, and av12 hulls with the potential to regenerate hull points, and you have solid fire power. What you are lacking is a durable troop unit who can go out and take an objective. Consider increasing your point totals to 1250, that way you could easily afford 10 marines- maybe with the Icon of Vengence for fearless! with 2 plasma guns in a rhino, as well as a big cultist squad. That would give you a unit to go out and take objectives while you blast away from afar.
