Subject: 1500 Point Necron List - The Necron's Court
Why, hello there Dakka. Aren't you looking lovely today.
If it's not too much trouble, I'd like your opinion on a 1500 point list I'm tinkering with for an upcoming casual tournament. My opponents will be fielding Chaos SM, Tyranids, and Eldar or Orks. My list, thus far, looks like this:
Spoiler:
HQ
Necron Overlord
-Mindshackle Scarabs, War Scythe, Sempiternal Weave, Resurrection Orb
Necron Overlord
-Mindshackle Scarabs, War Scythe, Sempiternal Weave, Resurrection Orb
Royal Court 1
-Necron Lord w/ Mindshackle Scarabs, Sempiternal Weave, War Scythe, Resurrection Orb
-Harbinger of Despair w/ Veil of Darkness
-Harbinger of the Storm w/ Lightning Field
-3 Harbinger of the Storm
Royal Court 2
-Harbinger of Destruction w/ Solar Pulse & Gaze of Flame
-Harbinger of the Storm w/ Lightning Field
-2 Harbinger of the Storm
-Harbinger of Despair w/ Veil of Darkness
Troops
10 Immortals
10 Immortals
10 Immortals
Heavy Support
Doomsday Ark
Strategy: The Courts would be dispensed between the three squads of Immortals, and each squad would also receive an Overlord/Lord to Orb them to invincibility.
I have a few questions:
1. Do I have the ability to determine the dispositions of my court (who goes with what squad) before each battle, or do I have to specify their location when I submit my list (this is a casual game between friends, but I don't want to take any liberties within the format)? Assuming I can't change the courts assignment before each match, each of the Veilteks will be assigned two-three Stormteks to create teleporting haywire assassins. If someone can confirm that I must keep the same assignment through each round, I'll update my list to reflect this.
2. Do you think this list can be competitive against its prospective opponents? I'm assuming their strategies will be along the lines of:
-Chaos SM: At least one Helldrake (probably two) and troops in Rhinos supported by Obliterators, Havocs, and possibly bikers/biker HQ -Tyranids: A combination of flying monstrous creatures and swarms, backed by Hive Guard and Zoans
-Eldar/Orks: ?
3. Is this list too risky? Should I stick with something more conventional i.e. 3 squads of Immortals, an Overlord w/ CCB, Destroyers, Doomscythes/Doomsday Arks?
Thanks for your input, and have a great day!

I'm afraid your plan isn't possible as only one Court member from each Court can join a squad.
You'll end up with two Court squads without any protection from the Res Orbs or the extra wounds of the Immortals.
If you're looking to run a list with a large contingent of Court members I think there are some lists about which revolve around a Court of Warscythe Lords assaulting out of a Ghost Ark.

#1 Yes, but can't change which models are in which court. At deployment, you do get to choose which models from each court head out and supervise your troops.
#2. I'm not sure that it'll be competitive. It is certainly a list that no one will expect. I'm worried that you simply do not have enough bodies (or guns) on the table. You really have to ask yourself... would you rather have that Stormtek or would you rather have 3 more Immortals?
#3. I'd run the list and see how it plays. Player trumps list, so you may do very well with it!
