Ok guys I will be playing in an escalation tournament next month and want some advice. The 1st game is 1500pts the second game is 1750 and the last game is 2000pts. I will post the 2000pt list and you guys can tell me what you think. Just a heads up most of the people that play at my FLGS run flyer heavy armies and for some reason I can not shoot them down. I have taken the Aegis with quad gun, 3 sets of long fangs with a dedicated Rune priest just to cast prescience. This tournament I expect most armies to have 2 - 3 flyers.

HQ
Rune Priest in Term Armour - JotWW / LL
Rune Priest in Power Armour - JotWW / other not decided yet

Elite
Dreadnough with 2 TL Auto Cannons (added at 2000pt level)
Dreadnough with 2 TL Auto Cannons (added at 2000pt level)

Troops
GH x10 - 2 melta guns, drop pod
GH x10 - 2 melta guns, drop pod
GH x10 - 2 plasma guns, MotW (added at 1750pt level) drop pod
GH x10 - 2 plasma guns, MotW, rhino (added at 1750pt level)
GH x10 - 2 plasma guns, MotW, rhino (whole squad added at 1750pt level)

Heavy Support
Long Fangs x6 missile launcher x 5
Long Fangs x6 missile launcher x 5
Long Fangs x6 missile launcher x 5

Aegis Defense Line with quad gun

The Idea is that my troops and long fangs and 2 rune priest can handle most things in the game. The 2 rhinos are added to help agains heldrakes and also keep the GH alive longer, the problem with that is now my long fangs will be a bigger target. The Aegis and 2 dreadnoughts should help shoot some birds out of the sky and are going to be harder to kill. I know this is not a "fun list" but the guys at this tournament are the WAAC type of players so I do not mind the spamming in the list. If you guys could please help me with some feed back on the list, the dreadnoughts and other ways you know of to shoot down flyers (with out having to take allies) that would be awesome.

I really like it. I'd rather have more Long Fangs because it's more bodies to hit and can't be glanced or anything. The only thing I would add if I were you is MotW for every squad and add in Wolf Standards.

No Wolf Guard? I like having the extra leadership and extra attack for a few more points but that's just me.

IMHO you should drop both dreadnoughts. You've got plenty of Dakka with just the long fangs. That's just me.

I'm not sure what it is you're adding at the 1750 point level. It looks like at 1500 points you have only 2 grey hunter units? That's not enough.

Where will the second Rune Priest go? Remember that only one of them can have prescience because of the leaders of the pack rule, and none of the transports have enough room for the 2nd RP.

Thorgrim - the reason behind no Wolf Standards is I always forget to use them so it comes out to 50 pts wasted. The 2 melta squads are pretty much a 1 and done kind of unit, with counter attack GH are still very deadly to anything they can hurt. As for Wolf Guard, I think they are just a waste of points, you only gain 1 leadership and no longer get the 2 special weapons in the rhinos or drop pods. I also dont mind failing leadership because of ATSKNF. It has actually worked out in my favor alot to fail.

Grugknuckle - I would take 5 squads of long fangs if I had them. As for now only 4 squads thus the need for a dakka dread. At 1750 points I am adding 1 MoTW, 1 Rhino and 1 fully tricked out plasma squad. I am also not sure why both Rune priests can not have prescience so long as the other power they generate is different. But to answer your question as to where the second rune priest would go it really depends on the army I play against. If it is Nids he attachs to a Plasma Squad and moves forward with JoTWW. Against anyone else it would depend on the Powers that he generated, but probably move him forward for psyker defense.

The reason you cannot both take prescience is the leaders of the pack rule AND the fact that if you trade in your 2 codex powers, you only get 1 rulebook power back. So, unless I'm mistaken, it is impossible to have two RP's with different powers if they both have prescience.

I think you're using the term "need" pretty loosely here. I have seen many SW lists at this point level that survive just fine with only 1 or 2 units of long fangs. The dreadnoughts have lots of shootiness and that's good, but they die easily and they cost 125 points each. That and you already have plenty of shootiness means that the Dreads don't really add much to your army. You should take what you want of course, but my recommendation is to select a unit that adds a new capability to your force. The long fangs give you plenty of shootiness, the GH's give you the ability to claim / deny. The RP's cover your need for Psychic defense. Who's providing you with close combat capability? Or mobility?

About the placement of your RP's, if you attach one to a GH squad, then they can't fit in the Rhino / Drop Pod anymore. That's all I'm saying.

The newest FAQ shows that you can trade in your 2 powers for 2 more powers.

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2940050a_Space_Wolves_v1.2_JANUARY13.pdf

Psychic Powers
A Space Wolves Rune Priest (including Njal Stormcaller) may
use the psychic disciplines found in the Warhammer 40,000
rulebook, instead of those in Codex: Space Wolves. If he does so,
generate two new powers from the Biomancy, Divination or
Telekinesis disciplines (in any combination) before armies are
deployed.

So that being said I would assume that you could in face have 2 Rune Priests with Prescience as long as the second power was different and the war gear was different
