Okay, so my brush collection isnt the best in the world, and I'm getting to the point where I really need a new brush for large flat areas, specifically biel tan eldar tanks (white and green colour scheme) so I want a large brush of good quality that isnt so stiff that it leaves marks all over vehicles with smooth areas on them. I know that Ideally I should get a new airbrush, but I dont want to spend that much money on one.

Any recommendations?

For basecoating, I've been using spray paint a lot lately. Sometimes that's just not an option though, and that's when I use this: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat470005a&prodId=prod20030a

I am not certain what is in your area ..I head to the paint and craft stores for good brushes ..for large areas I use a flat number 2 synthetic ..which lasts well used with acrylic paints and cleaned with isopropryl..then stored in between times with a small amount of brush restore

I just use a mediocre art/arts and crafts store synthetic (white nylon or golden taklon) flat - 1/2" for the really broad work, #2 when things get a little tighter. Unless the brush is so crappy as to be nigh unusable, your paint's consistency has more to do with the smoothness of the finish than the brush does. I've gotten smooth coats using a coarse hog hair flat (with properly thinned paint), even, but I prefer the feel of the softer synthetics.

An airbrush.

if not that, colored spray primer.

after that...thin the paint - as said by others, it seems to be more important than the specific brush.

best of luck!
