Hey all, I'm putting together a 30k army based on the 1st Company of the Sons of Horus based around the Justaerin Terminators and Catalan Reavers.

As I'm putting together a fluffy list I'm trying to put together a list containing some Terminator elements backed up by some Legion Veterans/Assault Squads and Fast Attack options.

So based on those constraints I've put together a 1503~pt list which at 1500 would probably be too little for the toys that can be put into a Legion list but if expanded on a bit, up to 1850 might be a workable force.

Abaddon - 215
+Power Sword
+Pride of the Legion
Total: 215

Justaerin
+2xTerminators
+PF
+4xCombi Melta
+Multi-Melta
Total: 373

Legion Veteran Squads
+5xVeterans
+2xPower Axes
+2xPower Swords
+Dreadclaw
Total: 325

Legion Veteran Squads
+5xVeterans
+2xPower Axes
+2xPower Swords
+Dreadclaw
Total: 325

Legion Attack Bike Squad
3xAttack Bikes
+3xAutocannon
Total: 135

Legion Land Speeder Squadron
2xLand Speeders
+2xMultiMeltas
Total: 120

The main points sink is Abaddon and the Justaerin which are so damn expensive but alas this is the only way I can see them actually working.
More than likely if I was to try to put more bodies on the field I'd substitute Abaddon for a Praetor and the Justaerin for a Command Squad in Cataphractii armor and another Legion Terminator Squad.
The main problems I see with this list is that on turn one, I have 3 Attack Bikes and 2 Landspeeders on the field and given some of the shooting which a Legion list can output, that's a small number of wounds/hullpoints while I wait for the reserved units to come on.
The overall strategy would be to hide what I can until support arrives, then aim to deepstrike the Justaerin at the nearest vehicle squadron and kill it.
Depending on how bold I'm feeling either deepstrike the Dreadclaws into the open, aiming to hover and assault the next turn or deepstrike somewhere safe then zoom as needed though this delays any damage I can do even more.

If I were to expand this to 1850 I'd maybe look at putting an Outrider (Bike) squadron and/or an Apothecary detachment but I'm really not sure where to take it.
Any advise would be much appreciated in improving the army list, though I do understand the constraints of a fluffy list do make things a bit difficult.

By the 37 keys of Tzeentch,We open the way for our brothers,
By the 1000 whispers of Slaanesh we call to them,
By the 12 plagues of Nurgle we fell their enemies,
And by the mighty axe of Khorne we cut open the world for them!

You really need more shooting. With so few heavy weapons you're almost entirely dependent on assaulting to kill anything, and you only have one truly good assault unit (the terminators). And since you don't have all that many bodies on the table and most of them are just basic MEQs durability-wise it's going to be very easy to feed you meatshields while smashing your units with overwhelming shooting (and don't forget that you have to spend a turn on the table getting shot before you can assault).

You might have a chance against a similar "fluffy" list full of poorly-optimized and expensive choices, but a well-optimized list (whether 40k or 30k) isn't going to be very scared of this.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
