I have three armies atm.. Nids, Tau and Orks.. I want to build a smallish force of around 750 points. I have three other guys that come over for game days at my house, and I wanted to be able to field 750 points for each army.. I want a combined arms force.. I'll be teaching the rules to the guys also.. One guy(my nephew) played about 10 years ago when I used to play.(I just got back into it about 6-7 months ago.) The first game I want to keep the armies vanilla.. Orks/Nids vs Marines/Tau each player with 500 points.. If I scrounge another player I will just GM the game... I want balanced armies so its fun for everyone.(ill be making the lists)

If its an army that is going to be used for learning purposes for a while the I would start with something like:

Librarian
Tactical squad x2 (special/heavy weapons to taste)
auto/las predator
land speeder



This give you the opportunity to teach the basics of psychic powers, infantry with heavy and assault weapons, and tanks and fast skimmer type vehicles. That should give a good base knowledge of a wide variety of rules.

Thank you for your help I am starting to build the marine army now.. I bought the marine mega force and a terminator squad to start things off.. I do need to buy a Librarian.. Probably will do that on Saturday.

Wow you have the same armies as me o.o And i just started nids and space marines.

Did you consider picking up dark vengeance? I always go to that first as I like it so much.

You could always pick up the librarian from that set on eBay for a few bucks and use it in your sm army.

For Orks I would suggest something like;
Warboss
Shoota Boys
Slugga Boys
Small mob of Stormboyz
Grots
Killa Kan(s)
