With the new DA codex I decided to redo my entire DA army and make my own little slice of Successor Chapter heaven. So far over the last 3 weeks I've painted a grand total of 8 models. Yeah I paint ridiculously slowly but I guess it gets me there. The over all plan is to paint up My Ravenwing first, then the Deathwing, and last up my tacs. The Marines will all be vet models as I really like the cloaked look and it keeps them from looking too much like most of the other folks at my FLGS. I'm making them such that they could fit as DA or as Fallen which should be fun.

Posting the first few pics here and I reckon I'll update as I get more stuff done.

Started off with the Nephilim Jet Fighter and a Ravenwing Black Knights unit

The Jet Fighter was first. Had a hell of a time getting that stony look that GW has but I think it turned out ok. I plan to eventually go back and dry brush some spots to give it a bit of that banged up feel once I get more stuff done up.

The Knights were actually a lot of fun to paint up because they had a lot of new details to them that I didn't really expect. And they look awesome on the table. Sorry for the poor image quality, I'll get a better camera eventually.

They look good from what I can see, but it is a little difficult to tell. You might want to take your pictures against a white background (draping a white t-shirt over the display surface works for me) with a little more ambient light; these things will add to your pic quality. Either way, looking forward to seeing more pics from you.

Zooming in on the images, the one thing that immediately jumps out is the need for some highlighting. Try hitting the edges of the models with a light grey or dark blue to make them pop.

Oh, and the obligatory: Drill out your gun barrels

Highlights would make good models look even better. And since the obligatory barrel drilling has been said. Get those guys on some kick ass bases asap.

Thanks for the advice. I have been drilling out the barrels for the bolters and melta but have kinda avoided doing that for the plasma. I'll give it a try and see how that looks.

For the highlights, I haven't quite figured out how to do that yet. I have been inking things though, not sure if that works out quite the same or if that is the same technique.

The white background idea sounds great! I'll certainly do that for the next pics.

It's been a while but I managed to finish up few more units. Sorry for the bleh pics, got out my old Cannon and really need to work on how they come out.

I kitbashed an older Ravenwing bike to make an extra Black Knight. Since the kit provides you with 3 plasma fairings and one grenade fairing along with 4 corvus hammers I decided that this would be the easiest way to get myself a few extra knights.

I also painted up a Huntmaster using the champion bits. Not a fan of the Ravenwing champion but the Huntmaster is pretty cool. Not sure if you can see it at all but I wanted the bits that were painted with a copper color to have a slightly oxidized look and inked them with some watered down warboss green.

Next up is a full Ravenwing Attack Squadron. I went for two meltaguns, a multimelta on the attack bike, and the Landspeeder Typhoon. I wanted them all to look a bit oily and grungy so used Nuln Oil to ink them. I tried to do some source object lighting on the pilot, but that's kind of hard to see since I didn't really take that good a picture.
