Has this been up a while and I just missed it? I don't know how close the "compiled" date is to when it was released.

Seems good though, fixes most of the problems that the book had. Veterans may be useful now, although I am not convinced tank hunters will be great. Storm troopers seem really pointless now, they can't even outflank or do accurate deepstrikes. The conqueror got a buff to ap3, which puts it in the realm of "can be fun and slightly useful". I can see a conqueror acting as a heavy escort to some light tanks and transports.

So like the Death Korps Grenadiers then?

Most of the FAQ was just confirming "yes, we really intended most of these to be that bad" sadly XD

The Conqueror is at least useful again however. Smaller blast and no Heavy, but with the coaxial Stormbolter it makes that smaller battlecannon blast Twin Linked at 24" and under as long as at least one shot hits, so it makes it at least something to think about, especially because if stationary you can still fire the main gun and everything else at full BS, though that does seem rather an odd issue given that the Conqueror was designed to be a more mobile Russ plaatform

I don't see why one would take the Heavy Mortar instead of the Thudd Gun, unless you face units with a 4+ that often, or multiwound T3 models.

They really need to give them all those fun mortar shells back then (and I think they costed 45 points too)

Ok Incendiary was broken (auto fail leadship checks from a large blast? ok there goes the army in the first turn), but fix that and I think the heavy mortar would be a good toolbox

Always been 50 pts as far as the brain can remember, but I'll check.

And you used to be able to take 4 Thudds/Mortars in a single elite slot.

It was back in IA5 Siege of Vraks part 1. 45 points for something that came with 5 different shells was pretty good (though as I said Infernus shells were broken)

The Mortar still has its virtues. It wounds marines on a 2+, is horrific against Necron Warriors, and hitting side armor with 2d6-pick-highest pen means against most vehicles you'll at least do *something* more than half the time. That said, yeah, the Thudd Gun really did get a whole lot more worth it.

Simplicity. Try firing a full battery of thudd guns and discover how much "fun" it is to use a 12-shot multiple barrage weapon. I hope you brought lots of spare templates.

We simply put a dice under the center of the small blast.

Repeat x11. And have fun placing dice on top of models (since the center of the blast will usually be on top of a model).

The Thudd Gun is obviously better than the Heavy Mortar, but it still has its uses.
First and foremost, it's nice and cool to have a mix when you have a lot of Forgeworld stuff, I sure hope you're not "only" about winning, right ?
Then as said above, big S6 Barrage template are quite useful against vehicles (and can ID T3 characters as well)

Mixing a Hvy Mortar with 2 Thudd Guns seemed interesting as well when you're firing at fairly big enemy units
((( You get to re-roll your initial scatter ))) edited out, didn't read the whole errata yet
On the Thudd Guns scatter, you don't care if you don't hit as you're firing at a big formation
On a hit, you can place the blast anywhere as long as it touches the primary (large) blast, giving a lot of flexibility

Question, did anyone try to include a Lord Comissar in an artillery battery to make good use of his BS5 on the first shot of the barrage ?
Seems like a good place to put him in as those batteries greatly benefit from a Ld boost

So, while not part of the official FAQ, I did inquire about the cost of the Leman Russ Annihilator in the Armoured Battlegroup list being 20pts more than it is in its earlier entry in the book, and received this reply

Forgeworld@gwplc.com wrote:Hi,

Thanks for your e-mail. This is a typo, and the army list should match the unit entry elsewhere in the book. 130 points is correct.

I did think that the annihilator cost was a misprint. It would be pretty useless at the higher price.

Yeah, it's unfortunate they didn't put that in the actual FAQ however so for events that allow FW stuff it'll still be stuck at 150pts :(

That said, apparently FW made at least two versions of the FAQ, one that got posted on their website, another one that they've emailed out to some people which actually has some of my questions I emailed in to them last year copied into it and answered (but not sent back to me apparently ), but not present on the one on their downloads page.

it was posted on warseer here by another user.

Sigh. I KNEW there was something wrong with the original FAQ. Half of those questions were ones I asked on facebook (literally word for word) and the response then was different (most importantly, they said that veteran squads get 3x specials and the first FAQ said 2x was deliberate). I'm glad they've decided to fix these things, even if they haven't posted an update yet.

Yeah, it'd be lovely if they could get the responses consistent and altogether since we've now got two different FAQ's floating around

Look at the dates that they were compiled on, they show that the website version is the later one. So I guess our vets will have two specials for a while.
