This will be the work-in-progress of my combined CSM/Daemon army. I'll hold off posting my list until this Saturday, as the new Daemon codex drops then and I'll most likely have to revise things.

So basically at the moment, this first post is a place holder.

I don't particularly care for the Dark Apostle models (too much parchment), so I decided to try making my own. Picking up a few Chosen from the Dark Vengeance set is inexpensive, and there were two particularly that I thought would fit.

I replaced the power maul with an icon that looks roughly like the Dark Apostle's weapon. I added the halo with the skull because I thought it fit with the weapon and could count as the Sigil of Corruption. I swapped out the hand holding the helmet with an individual hand and a book.

I like the skeletal appearance of this one, because it reminds me of the SM Chaplains. I'm still debating whether or not I'll replace the head or leave it as is. My main issue in doing so would be the tongue, as it extends from the current helmet down the front of the chest.

I like your version of the Dark Apostle much better than the finecast monstrosity that GW made/rushed to market. The simple book for conversion is perfect.

that is awesome. Might have to borrow that if I do a chaos army.

Would you mind saying where the weapon top and book came from?

I purchase random bits off of E-bay (there's a seller named "window-box" that I buy from regularly), and I try to buy a bunch at a time to save on shipping. The weapon tip is an icon from the Chaos Space Marine sprue (I think it's meant to go on the backpack), the book is from the Dark Angels chapter upgrade kit (I scraped the sword insignia off the front) and the halo was listed as a "SM Terminator Iron Halo", though I'm not sure which terminator set it's from.

The actual marines are Chosen from the "Dark Vengeance" set, I used the one with the maul and the one with the axe because it was easy to just mount the new weapon tips on the existing weapon shafts. To buy the bits and the figures cost me about $10, which is much better than $19.25 each for the Dark Apostles. As a bonus, I have 4 Chosen left to play around with. If I need a Lord, I'll probably use the figure with the dual lightning claws.

Nice conversions. Looking forwards to seeing some paint on them.

I have a cultist squad with 1 champion, 2 flamers and 17 cultists armed with pistols and CC weapons. Since they all look so similar, I thought the easiest thing to do would be to swap some heads.

.

The two flamers side by side. I can do basic fills with green stuff, so the color scheme will differentiate these two further.

I picked Space Wolves heads to mix it up, because I liked the angry/bearded look. They make me think of vikings now.

In addition to the heads, I'm trying to vary the arm positions (of the arms that snap on) to differentiate figures.

I tried swapping weapons from two different models, but wasn't really satisfied with the result. I'm thinking of picking up some CC weapons to swap, but find something that looks makeshift has been tough. Perhaps orcs?

Marauders or Gor might be your best bet actually and Empire Flagellants work well as well. Good job on the Dark Apostles as well

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I tried painting up one of the Bloodletters (I have 20 so far) to see how I wanted to do it, and came up with this:

For some reason I filled in the gaps around the hips and completely forgot about the gap in the head above the eyes, so I'll need to go back over that.

I'm not too sure about the sword, either. The most common way I've seen it painted is with a red to yellow gradient on the tip of a black blade. I don't own an airbrush, so I tried drybrushing it and the result was...ok, but not great. I'm considering just going with black and edging it in either grey or red. Another idea I had was to make the handle black and make the blade bronze.

For the Bloodletter sword ( I think it looks decent already), but you weren't sure, I would suggest a tin bitz (I don't know the new paint color name) blade with a black handle then edge and tip it withe a fairly wide area of Brass color (again I don't know the GW names) and then maybe glaze it all with the new red glaze or jus glaze the top half towards the tip our even reverse that. Not sure if thats what you would like but you may want to experiment with it on a spare sword or srue somewhere.

This is all 20 Cultists after head/weapon swaps and posing. A few still need a little green stuff (especially the cowled ones I swapped heads on), but you get the idea.

I had an extra SM flamer, so I switched it up a little on my second flamer. The giant meat cleaver is off the Skaven warlord from Island of Blood.

I don't know what prompted me to stick the helmet on him.

These will need the most green stuff to fix their necks.

I had the extra chain sword, I hope nobody I play against makes a big deal out of it.

The one on the left has the claw hand from the champion (I gave the champ a pistol) and the one on the right is using the flamer barrel I cut off the second flamer as a weapon.

I purchased the Daemon Prince prior to the rumors of the new Daemon Codex, so I'm not sure if he's even going to fit into the army at this point - but here's my WIP of him.

I need to finish the top half, clean up the wings and I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the sword. I used the horns from a Bloodletter because I wanted the Daemon Prince to seem like an overly large Bloodletter.
