Hi all,

This is my second post so go easy! Also have searched and cannot find an answer! Although in fairness it is probably very obvious!

In the BRB it goes along the lines of when the AV on a facing is reduced to 0 a total collapse result is suffered (or words to that effect!).

Am I right in thinking if you fire say a lascannon and roll a 6 (for 15) then you have reduced the AV to 0 thus:

1. Any occupants suffer a hit as per the rule
2. You roll on the building damage chart (apply the effect)
3. The building also suffers a total collapse and becomes ruins

It just strikes me as pointless having both the total collapse result and rolling on the bulding damage chart which gives different results such as partial collapse etc.

And finally one lascannon shot, turn one and bye bye bastion?! Suddenly my bastion doesnt stack up against an aegis defence line!

That is not how it works at all.

If you fire a lascannon and roll a 6 to pen (for 15) then you have scored a penetrating hit and you have to roll on the building damage table.

Fair enough, so how do you reduce a buildings AV to 0 as per the paragraph in the rulebook?

Until I read that paragraph I assumed it worked like a vehicle minus the hull points.

Some of the damage results for buildings reduce the armor value.

Great, thanks.

Evidently more attention required when reading the rules!

There are units that can reduce AV as well. I think only in the necron codex though, so far.

Entropic Strike will reduce a buildings AV as will any glancing hit on a building. A scarab swarm could effectively bring a building down on charge just with hits alone.

Glancing hits do not reduce the AV of a building. They do remove a HP from a vehicle but buildings have no HP and are not vehicles. All glancing a building does is cause a generic would on an embarked model.

If the enemy is inside a bastion the only way to reduce the building to AV 0 is to have 12 (14 if the building was an army's fortification) penetrating hits that all roll a 1 on the damage table. since this will also inflict 12(14) wounds on the occupying unit chances are they are not going to survive the collapse!
