I'm desperately trying to find some good anti-air for my Tau/Eldar combo. A bastion with broadsides and a lascannon or quad gun just isn't cutting it anymore.

Tried a few remora drones and didn't do much there either. Have tried a baracuda (proxy) and nightwing (also proxy) before too and neither did that much to be honest. The baracudahad plenty of guns but expensive and weak av10 makes it go down hard. (75 points more than the nightwing but 2 twin linked str 7 shots, 3 str 7 ap3 shots, and 6 str 5 shots)

The nightwing is cheaper and has holofields for w/e that is worth on also an Av10 2 hull point chassis model but does come with 2 lances and some 6 str 6 shooting along with vector dance as far as I'm aware.

I understand we can't post exact points and equipments due to dakka rules but you guys can get the jist of it from above. I will only really be able to fit in 1 aircraft at 1500 points so it's one or the other.

This is mostly due to having my troops/crisis suits flamed off / hammerheads vector striked to death in quite a few games now vs heldrakes and I simply don't have much of an answer at all so if there are other answers, I'd be happy to entertain them. Already using broadsides and plasma cannon hammerheads.

2 drakes + oblits is tough to crack. (not even counting the abaddon + other nurgle stuff in my face by turn 2-3 not to mention the occassional str 8 Ap3 ignore cover blast master markers lol))

Also now debating if I wanna do a Tau + SM list with SM brining in the fliers. Think it'd work better than the eldar? (been using them for psy protection and divination buffs but I can do w/e)

Are you sure that you are using the most recent rules. As far as I know, Imperial Armor Aeronautica has the most up to date rules, with barracudas being 15 points cheaper than nightwings.

In response to your question, I would have to say a nightwing, as it is BS4 as opposed to the barracuda's BS3, it has vector dancer so it is much more maneuverable, and it has a 2+ jink save, compared to the barracuda's 4+ jink save.

Firepower wise, they are both about the same, but the nightwing is much more survivable

As a Dogfighter, the Nightwing absolutely wins with Vector Dancer. Once it gets into the rear arc of an enemy flyer (that doesn't have Vector Dancer) there's no way they can shake it, and no way they can draw a bead on it, without flying off the table or going into hover mode. If they go into Hover Mode everything else in your army can have a crack at them no problem, and if they fly off the table you either take a shot at something else or follow them off so you'll arrive back on table after they do.
