I was just wandering if there is a peice of fluff that states that pre-heresy /heresy era squads could only have one mark of armour per squad? Just wondering as this seems to be what everyone does.

Thanks

AFAIK there isn't, but it makes sense that a squad would update it's armour all at once

I'm not aware of any fluff stating it. I wouldn't expect to see many/any mixed Mk2/Mk4 squads before the Heresy, but I can easily see a Mk2 or Mk4 squad having a couple of 'breacher' guys in Mk3 armour - its like the modern Russian army's trend of issuing bulletproof titanium face plates to a couple of guys (the ones who have to kick the door in) in a squad during urban operations.

One the Heresy starts and spare parts problems start to kick in I can see squads starting to mix 2 & 4 on the squad level - Brother Bob's autosenses takes a hit so he has to put his old suit of Mk2 on whilst his suit is cannibalized to keep the rest of the squad's Mk4's running. Then when they get shipments of Mk5* they replace the Mk2 but not the Mk4.

* I dismiss the Ravens-whatever guff about Mk5 just being a classification for mixed-mark armour, as it contradicts both the existing fluff and the continued existence of the unique Mk5 helmet.
