Can a vehicle ever gain a cover save from an impalor cannon? Me and my friend are trying to think of a circumstance that it could, and we've come up dry..

If the vehicle is 25% obscured, and it is either in terrain or touching terrain that lies between the vehicle and the hive guard. it is possible, but it is highly unlikely.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

If the vehicle is touching or in a piece of cover that obscures 25% or more of the vehicle it will have a cover save.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

So for example if an Aegis or ruin wall obscurred it, and it was to touch it would this grant it? I always thought since you are only getting cover from the intervening terrain it wouldn't work, so basically the only way would to be in area that also obscures.

If you are touching the cover provider and are 25% obscured you get the cover.

Ok thanks, maybe I'm thinking to fluffy for the RAW, not seeing how being up against a wall, will stop an impalor smashing through the wall into you, rather than you being back a bit from the wall and it smashing through the wall at you

The Impalers don't break through cover, they are guided so as to avoid it, the idea is, if you are back from the wall the Impaler can arc up over it and come down to get you, whereas if you are against it, there's a greater chance of it accidentally hitting the wall because it lacks enough control to do a 180 and come at you from behind.

Think of it this way. Normally it flies over the cover and zooms straight into you. When you are up against the cover it has to make a really really tight 90 degree turn (think Star Wars when Luke blows up the Death Star), undergoing 72,000 G of force. Besides hitting target with that small of a visible surface area is impossible, even for a computer.

Meh. If I can bulls-eye wamp rats in my T-16 back home, Implaer cannons should ignore cover completely.
:-)
Yeah, the most common prevelance of a vehicle getting a cover save is the aegis line. Since so many people are bringing it now its actually made me stop taking Hive Guard at all. Well, that and the general lack of transports overall.

On the plus side, if they're touching the Aegis, it's easier to reach them to assault them, as you only need to make contact with the Aegis within 2" of the vehicle. So there's a synergy there between your hive guard and your assault units.
