I'm here at the Indy Open GT, and they just announced the best painted......

Best painted went to an "internet celebrity" who showed up with two of his characters not even based...

This gak is rigged. They just want it promoted on his site.

for the record.

2nd place in painting was won by a borrowed army.....

Well it depends on how they are scoring as well as what is there. Maybe if you took some pics to show it would come across better as right now you are coming across as starting a smear war.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Technically speaking nothing but i did look at their scoring sheet and it just says they cant be primed on the base with bonus to special bases etc. The biggest thing to remember is painting is 100% subjective. As for the internet guy the closet i know of is GMM and Brandon does good work. Also as said before though it matters what also showed up to the event and being these guys are linked to Nova and Adepticon i don't think the internet theory pan out but we will see tomorrow.

Wasn't GMM studios. He would deserve it. The army that won is nowhere near.

Hey OP,
Your title sucks. It reminds me of an atrocious news headline. This sort of loose wordplay should get you a slap to the face. Just because the "Best Painted" aka "Subjective Contest" was a bit off doesn't mean that the "Indy Open GT" was "rigged". I believe it was slightly more than a painting contest, aye?

Sincerely,
People

Fair enough.

Its really not that big of a deal, it's just disappointing.

So because you were disappointed at a paint award you decided to lash out at a fledgling Tournament as a whole ? Indy Open GT .....rigged ? carries a heck of a lot more weight for something that in your words is not a big deal :

What you've tried to advocate is that a tiny event has been tainted because somebody didn't do something you thought was appropriate. The title is a massively out of proportion statement for something that 'isn't that big of a deal', in your own words.

Mmmhmmm now lets all not jump down the ops throat as honestly everybody has said worse at one point or another. Now obviously they (like me) prefer painting over playing and are upset as to them something is afoul. Several questions though did you talk to the paint judges are you upset as you felt it was undeserved and you did better? Finally who was the internet personality that won? In the future though remember what was said about title and learn not to take it personally. I compete in professional comps and have learned this lesson as even recently i competed and heard from the judge that i had a flawless blend but he didn't like the mini i choose or my style so he picked something else and hey that's life. I usually laugh about it and go about my life because i do this out of fun and he may not like it but bigger comp judges did.

I normally do not care for painting scores, but to me, you just must not win a painting competition with unbased miniatures. Just seems wrong.

In every major tournament I've been to, an army does not qualify as "fully painted" unless it is also based.
It seems very counter-intuitive that an unbased army could win best painted. I'd really love to see these pictures. What tournament was this, anyway?

After looking at the Indy Gts Paint judging sheet. It is possible via their rules to win even with unbased minis and no display board. They clearly state you only need 30 points to be eligiable to win. You can earn those 30 points while still getting a zero for both basing and display board or conversions.

I'd be curious to see pics. They may not be conclusive, as we don't know what they were compared to, but it would help to give a sense of whether it actually is a very nice looking army. Personally I don't normally see an unbased army as being finished, but as was noted above, on that painting scale it's possible for an unbased army to win.

I don't know if naming the winner would be particularly productive, but their name's probably out there anyway.

I agree we had a similar issue at the brawl a few years ago actual. One person insisted they were completely painted and i said they weren't as they weren't 100% based and just threw three colors onto it. Being i was the judge he wrote a lovely blog about how i was a paint nazi. Rather funny actually and btw i can't find any info anywhere on who this winner was.

Yes, on the table it's purely legal to win.

I see no problem.

In the OPs defense the event is still going on. It's only 1530 so it will be a few hours.

I normally don't comment on this blog as I have my own. I also don't feel a need to defend my tournament but will as the initial post heading was undesirable to my event and we continue to strive for a better growing gaming experience. As the painting scores are an average of 3 different paint judges that are judged seperately at different times then averaged together, I don't see any validity in this post that was written by a person that seemed to be having a great time all weekend. I am glad you were there Master Shake and appreciate any feedback you have for our tournament.

There is much more I could discuss surrounding the timing this post was published, the condition of all parties involved, and the process of determining best painted, but won't.

Thank you for attending the 2nd Annual Indy Open Master Shake and I hope to see you and your group again.

I'm not entirely sure either, but according to the times I'm seeing he posted the thread early sunday morning, so technically he would have the whole day of monday to post the pics "tomorrow"
