I finally made an account because I come here ALL the time for ideas. My names Matt, and my username means Central Texas (centex), which is where Im from. I used to have some Ultra Marines, but I never went farther than painting them. Some of my friends play often, and wanted me to make them some terrain. Im here to get opinions, and suggestions on some of my work. I'm going to gather up a few pics to post for comments.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to dakka!
Looking forward to seeing what you've got.(and possibly blatantly copying it )
Some basic scenery ideas
Hills:*paper-mache over a wire netting base. Hard to carry out but can create natural shapes and is very tough with enough layers
*high density polystyrene. Can be carved out to make it just as natural. A lot weaker than paper-mache when done properly.
Ruins(osgiliath,temples for fantasy etc)
*low density polystyrene. When cut in rectangles, arches, etc and painted and textured properly can look very good and realistic.
Far future ruins
*low density polystyrene. Cut into building like shapes and break in the roof and walls. Not really effective but it is all i know of.
Lakes.
*high density polystyrene. Cut into a crater shape and fill with ready mixed fillern also rippled plasticard is at some gaming stores. This actually works really well as long as the crater is well painted and big.

Thanks for the welcome. Ive copied alot of ideas from this site and others. I just change up a few things to make it my own. Some of the terrain I make are things Ive never seen before. I like to do whats already been done for the practice though. I use alot of styrofoam. Never knew you could make that stuff so tuff! I started a Custom 40k Terrain thread.
