Subject: New Warboss Army Lists
|

Disguised Speculo

Hey there, new Warboss on the block who is going to be thrown in the deep end tonight with a bunch of games over the next few days. I have two scheduled at 500 points each and one at 1000. I think the smaller games are kill points but the larger is probably some kind of objective game.
Just wondering if you guys would look over my lists and point out their many, many flaws.
Two things I don't want to do though - swap out all Slugga boyz for Shoota boyz, and ditch the Warphead which graces some of my lists (except perhaps to upgrade to Zogwart!) - which I'm sure will be recommended, but I like variety, fluffiness and fun!
List #1 - Mini Green Tide [500pts]
Warboss [90]
-Power Klaw, Bosspole
Weirdboy [85]
-Warphead upgrade
Slugga Boyz Mob [144]
x24 Boyz
Shoota Boyz Mob [180]
x30
Total: 499
Stradegy: Get 'em boyz! Dakka dakka dakka! WAAAGH! THE ORKS! WAAAGH! -Rotgob, Ork Strategist
-----
List #2 - Dakka Wagon [500pts]
Edit: swapped out 28 slugga boyz for the smaller trukk nob
Warboss [90]
-Power Klaw, Bosspole
Trukk Sluggas [152]
x11 Slugga Boyz
Nob w/ PK, BP
Trukk w/ Grot riggas
Shoota Boyz Mob [120]
x20 Boyz
Battlewagon [120]
-Rolla, Riggers, 1 Big Shoota
Total: 482 [16 points left to allocate]
Stradegy: The footsloggas WAAAGH and the dakka wagon fills them full of lead and runs them down.
-----
List #3 - WAAAGH 'slap together a thousand points from what I have'
Warboss [90]
-Power Klaw, Bosspole
Weirdboy [85]
-Warphead
Slugga Mob [180]
x30 Sluggas
Shoota Mob [180]
x30 Shootas
Wagon Boyz [160]
x19 Shootas
Nob + Power Klaw, Bosspole
Battlewagon [120]
-Rolla, Riggas, Big Shoota
Deff Koptas [135]
-3 solo units with TL Rokkits
Killa Kan [50]
-TL Rokkits
Total: 1000
Stradegy: Da boyz rush forward, hopefully getting some cool powers from the warphead, meanwhile the dakka wagon comes up from behind to squish and shoot. The Green Barons rocket up the sides at the start of the game for some cheap shots on their armour - probably leave one of them out of range to dart in at an opportune moment, and the kan is just a point sink for my last 50 points, he'll follow behind the boyz, fire some rokkits at any tanks I see, and then get stuck in with his inaccurate but brutal close combat weapon.
So yeah, recommendations for units or strategies appreciated. I'll also give a listing of the other units I have available for convenience
Burna Bomba, 5 TL rokkits deff koptas, 2 shoota deff koptas (two koptas have bombs but not sure which), trukk, at least 45 more sluggas and 30 shootas but they're all badly, badly painted so I'd prefer to leave them out, 15 nobz with various but low quality gear and painboy, trukk, 2 more kans (big shoota and grotzooka), ghazghull / mega armoured boss, snikrot (can do counts-as kommandos)

I'd much rather be running a KFF big mek with the first list instead of the Weirdboy. A permanent 5+ coversave for most of your army for just 85 points is too good to pass up. Also, shoota boyz are much better than sluggas this edition. Much more versatility.
As for the second list, consider running trukkboyz alongside your battlewagon. For orks it's either go fully mechanized, or don't go mechanized at all. Your vehicles are extremely weak armorwise, and having just one vehicle will make it a huge target. You pretty much want to strike with your entire force at once to break your enemy, as orks don't have a lot of staying power in small numbers (read:20 or 12 man squads,) Bringing a battlewagon with plenty of boyz to a 500 point game can be pretty brutal on your opponents though.

I'm not exactly sure how cover works in this edition (I'm used to 3rd and just learning 6th now) but the way I figure it, I'd have to save 15 shooting wounds to earn back that KFF, which means an average of 45 wounds recieved from a mob of only 30 shoota boyz. Looks to me like the KFF scales really well in larger games but for small games like this I can't see it being worth the points.
Of course the weirdboy is also inefficient, but he's more fun
I'll swap out those foot sloggas for a smaller trukk mob, but I'm not really sold on a KFF mek. List #2 is updated. Thanks for the advice
Edit: That gives me 16 points to play with on list #2. Considering 2 Big Shootas on the wagon mob plus another shoota on the wagon itself. Alternatively, cybork for the boss and one big shoota on the boyz or wagon. Open to suggestions. My games start in... four hours or so.

Ork Boy Hangin' off a Trukk

If I'm correct in guessing that you're putting your shoota boys in your Battlewagon (you'd be silly not to, so I'm going to assume that it is so), that second list is terrifying. At 500 pts, there are VERY few armies that can bring powerful enough dakka to take out the front armor of that wagon. If you can manage to keep it in front of your foot slogging boys, they'll get a cover from their own obscuring model that the enemy can't hit. The biggest trick, though, is going to be keeping the front facing the enemy until you get close enough to WAAAGH! and charge into their faces and mash them to bits. Honestly, though, at 500 pts, people will be scratching to bring compulsory lists that will be pretty compact, so for this one, it shouldn't be too difficult. Once you get up close and personal, start blasting from the wagon (open topped is awesome for this) and charge in for the clean up. If you can, go for the unit with the warboss in it first. You want to be at full strength to take out some of the stronger guys (Chaplains, Commissars, etc.) Also, put that deff rolla to good use, especially on any monstrous creatures you may encounter (Tyranids/Daemons). Considering your update (that was made while I was typing), take the extra big shootas on the wagon. More dakka will win the day. Also, if you want your WB to be with the slugga boys, you're going to have to make room for him in the trukk. I'm not sure if you're saying 11 boys including or plus one nob, but as you know, they can only seat 12. Keep your trukk behind your wagon, too. Trukks are very easy to pop.

Hmm, may just run army #2 twice since you think it's so deadly.
Yeah I messed up with the trukk boyz, I'll run ten with a nob and the big boss.
Thanks for your suggestions mate.
I've got about an hour before I have to leave for my game. Will check the thread between now and then for any other suggestions.

Stealthy Grot Snipa

LIST 1
The list could afford to ditch the warboss for nobz w/ bosspoles and powerklaws to lead both squads instead. Suddenly you got the powerklaw in two units at once and morale will not be too much of a problem as soon as you get wittled down. Additionally, having two nobz will make it so that you do not worry about your warboss dying to prevent you from having any anti-tank power anymore.
LIST 2
The second list would benefit greatly from a KFF as opposed to the warboss. Take a boy out and throw the mek inside means you now have an even tougher shell to crack with the ability that units around it get protected too.
The only issue I see with that list is that you have two eggs in your basket. The shooty wagon and the trukk. The trukk can easily be popped to cut the arrival of your force into a piecemeal set-up.
LIST 3
This list could use a KFF like in list 2 for the same reasons. Have the ground-pounding boys huddle around the wagon to get cover. Again, as list 1, you should have nobz w/ bosspoles in the boy mobs with powerklaws for reasons mentioned before.
The trouble I see throughout the lists is that the eggs get thrown all into one basket. There needs to be some "Plan B"s incase the vital stuff dies off.
