Finally decided on a color scheme for my Tau. Took the color from District 9,but I'll be doing more orange and a dark to medium grey. I haven't had time to mess with the army painter yet. I'm headed to the store tonight to pick up the paint, what colors should I get to mess around with? Black, orange, white, and grey? Can I mix my own highlight colors? I see everyone mentioning washes. What would be a good color wash for this color?

Those colors seem to be pretty good to start.

The grey and white can highlight black.
You can mix white and grey to highlight the grey
White and orange to highlight orange

For washes, brown usually works with orange
Black wash for the grey
Some use blue for white, i prefer black wash, but it looks dirtier.

So I'd say your 4 colors, and then maybe two washes.

I'd suggest names, but I don't know the new range well enough, all my paints are old old old.

Great minds think alike. Mechanicus standard grey, with troll slayer orange. It should look like this.

Mine came out a little brighter than the mech was, so you might just want to dry brush the grey on. Also, the D9 lettering is pretty easy to free hand, so you might want to look some up.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Mr Nobody,

That's sick! I think it's too much black, I"m probably going to be doing more orange. But just Orange and black I think could be pretty either bland, or overpowering. So that's why I'm thinking some medium grey to break it up, especially on things like the devilfish, hammerhead, and crisis suits.

Interesting use of blue for the line highlights. Now I need to pick an optic color and device screen color, like for their eyes and for the "drone controller" that the fire warriors will be holding.

What color ink wash should I use?
