Lesser Daemon of Chaos

Hey mates,

Tinkering with my CSM army. The base CSM Primary Detachment is:

160 Huron Blackheart
61 Mutilator, Mark of Nurgle
180 10 Chaos Space Marines, Plasmagun, Lascannon, Champion: Meltabombs
180 10 Chaos Space Marines, Plasmagun, Lascannon, Champion: Meltabombs
165 5 Chaos Spawn, Mark of Slaanesh
170 Heldrake, Baleflamer
152 2 Obliterators, Mark of Nurgle
125 5 Havocs, 2 Autocannon, 2 Missile Launcher

1193 points

The Seconday Detachment is either:

Chaos Daemons 1

-5 Minus 1 Meltabomb

290 Bloodthirster of Khorne, 2 Greater Rewards
90 10 Plaguebearers
180 Soulgrinder, Mark of Nurgle, Phlegm bombardment

555 points for a total of 1748

OR

Chaos Daemons 2

-10 Minus 2 Meltabombs

235 Great Unclean One, 1 Greater Reward, +1 Mastery Level
90 10 Plaguebearers
240 Daemon Prince, Mark of Nurgle, Flight, Armour, Greater Reward

555 points for a total of 1748

OR

Imperial Guard

70 Primaris Psycher, 2 Rulebook Psychic powers
105 10 Veteran Squad, Plasmagun, Lascannon
130 Vendetta Gunship
250 Leman Rus Punisher, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Knight Commander Pask

555 points for a total of 1748

So whats the verdict. Which of these lists would be more nasty/balanced/competative?

Thnx!

Cilithan

I think i like daemons #1 best.
If you go for the guard allies, you only have footslogging troops, unless you want to take the risk with the Vendetta as a transport.

A testgame later and some more chatting with friends, the following list is crystalised:

Chaos Space Marines
160 Huron Blackheart
61 Mutilator, Mark of Nurgle
170 10 Chaos Space Marines, Meltagun, Lascannon
160 10 Chaos Space Marines, Meltagun, Autocannon
165 5 Chaos Spawn, Mark of Slaanesh
170 Heldrake, Baleflamer
152 2 Obliterators, Mark of Nurgle
115 5 Havocs, 4 Autocannons
Chaos Daemons
270 Bloodthirster of Khorne, 1 Greater Rewards
90 10 Plaguebearers
165 Soulgrinder, Mark of Khorne, Phlegm bombardment
Fortifications
70 Aegis Defence Lines, Comms Relay

The ADL with Comms is mainly because I plan to use the Mutilator, Plaguebearers and possibly Soulgrider using reserves. The Heldrake is also reserved. The last game against Nivoglibina was lost mainly because the heavy hitters didn't show until turn 4.

Trimming the list freed enough points.

Thoughts? Should I consider changing Spawn for Fiends for example? etc?

Thnx!

Cilithan

This list is a bit confusing. I know what the Bloodthirster is going to do. He wants to move forward to punch people in the face and cut heads off.

The rest I am not sure about. You have mutilators and spawn. Units that are not that great on their own, but do serve as descent distraction as you try to move up something more nasty with them. But you don't have any heavy hitters other than the bloodthirster going with the distraction units.

I would suggest dropping Huron because he's pointless in this list. He's too slow to move up into combat with your assault units. He can make the marines fearless, but there are much cheaper ways to do that. So what I would recommend is to take the spawn, drop the mark of slaanesh and add a khorne lord with the axe of blind fury on a bike. This way your lord uses the spawn to soak up wounds as he charges forward and beats face. So now you have the Bloodthirster and the deadly lord who will do the heavy hitting when they get to the enemy. You deep strike the mutilators to either take more fire away from your lord and thirster. If they are ignored then you can introduce your opponent's important things to paired chain fists.

The other things I would note is that a bastion would work better than the defensive line. It offers better protection and better sight lines for the havocs. The marines might also use rhinos. The rhinos do die quickly, but there is no other way for the marines to get around. Plus, the rhino offers some protection from Flyrants with devourers and heldrakes won't just kill them dead.
