I was at my FLGS recently and picked up a box of Grey Knight terminators. I've been collecting Tyranids for years, and I thought it might be interesting challenge to go from a horde style army to an elite low-model count one. I know 500pts is low to get a feel for the army, but its easier on the budget. I have a couple extra terminator bodies and enough TH or Halberds to equip the squad I'm just not sure which list is better.

List One

Ordo Malleus Inquisitor
Terminator Armour + Daemon hammer

Strike Squad (5 man)
Daemon hammer
Psy cannon
Force swords and Stormbolters

Terminator Squad (7 man)
Daemon hammer
Psy cannon
Swords/hammers/halberds (?)

List Two

Brother-Captain
Daemon Hammer

Strike Squad (5 man)
Daemon hammer
Psy cannon
Force swords and Stormbolters

Terminator Squad (5 man)
Daemon hammer
Psy cannon
Swords/hammers/halberds (?)

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

I'd take list 1, drop a terminator or two, and get more psycannons

Bedouin Dynasty: 10000 pts
The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts

The Twilight Zone

List one is better.

Terminators should have at least one hammer to deal with big nasties. Halberds are nice for the high I attacks.

Consider dropping a terminator to give your inquiz a psycannon and psyker mastery level one. Swap his power out for prescience, and you can make thsoe 2 psycannons and 5 stormbolters twin linked!

Inquisitors with Terminator Armor, Psycannon, and Divination are one of the best normal Hq's in all of 40k. For 110 points you get:

3 Wounds with a 2+ save
A very powerful, relentless gun
S6 AP2 force weapon
Psyker mastery 1 in the best Lore (divination)
Ld10 and Stubborn

It is one of the most powerful shooting Hq's you can get, as he has a powerful gun, and he buffs the guns of the unit he is with.

He is decent on combat as well. With a 2+ save, there are a lot of guys who have trouble hurting him. With an S6 AP2 force weapon with 3-4 attacks, and a re-roll to hit, he can put out serious damage. Also, his entire unit gets a re-roll to hit as well.

You also have some of the best Leadership around as well. With Ld10 stubborn, you almost never run, but you can still go to ground, unlike if you were fearless.

His only downfall is T3, and this is not that bad really. His unit is still T4 in the shooting phase and in the assault phase. You only use the T3 if you are in a Challenge [I think. There may be contention on this issue]. Try to keep the S6+ stuff away from him so he is not ID, and you are golden.

So :

Ordo Malleus Inquisitor
Terminator Armour + Daemon hammer
Psycannon
Mastery Lvl 1

Strike Squad (5 man)
Daemon hammer
Psy cannon
Force swords and Stormbolters

Terminator Squad (6 man)
2 x Daemon hammer + SB (1 Justicar)
Psy cannon + Halberd
Halberd + SB
2 x Sword + SB

Coming in just under 500 pts, maybe Psybolt Ammo on the Inquisitor.

So if I wanted to up it to 1000 pt, would i be looking for Mech like a Stormraven or more strike squads?

Only two troop choices at the 1000 point division is a liability, you'd want at least three of a strong variety, or four of middle strength. A Stormraven is a solid choice, but I would add in another Strike Squad with another Inquisitor or Coteaz on top of that . Else Hencemen would be a solid bet (Psyker squad with a Crusader, or 3x Plasma Cannons).
