Hi all, I've been running Eldrad with a full squad of Dire Avengers, accompanied by a WL and either another WL or a squadron of Scatter Walkers. I've been swapping out all Eldar powers for Divination powers until I get Misfortune and/or Forewarning, and Prescience. If possible I'll roll one on Telepathy to get Psychic Shriek (great way to kill termies that get too close for comfort). I've had great success with this tactic, but for giggles am contemplating a change.

My question is if you all think it'd be more beneficial to try rolling for Invisibility to march up the field. My thoughts for this are that it protects me all the way across the board, and I can potentially tarpit a nasty CC unit by making them WS1. I know it won't transfer to the WL, but at least I'd have a warp charge left for either psychic shriek or prescience for the walkers.

Thoughts?

The Twilight Zone

I never swap out eldrad's powers, ever. Fortune and doom are just too valuable to lose. Yeah, you can roll misfortune, but why not take the sure bet? Fortune is critical for any heavy anvil unit the eldar have. Prescience is better than guide, but not worth losing the other two.

If I was going to, I would try for invisibility off the bat, taking prescience once I get invisibility. With rolling for random powers, you cant build a list around a certain power or relying on it. You just have to hope you get something favorable.

Invis, prescience, perfect timing, psychic shriek and misfortune are all fantastic powers. A lot of the other powers are garbage though.

Sometimes I take a normal seer with 2-3 cheap powers and roll on the table for the hell of it.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

I actually had originally started swapping out for BRB powers because I felt Doom wasn't making me enough money. With a lot of Eldar weapons being S6, I wound on 2's anyway, so I was getting very few re-rolls. On the other hand, Misfortune has absolutely wrecked high points squads, in particular, Terminators. I throw 15 saves on them, they make all but, say, 2 or so. Congrats, now re-roll the saves you made. There go another 2. All of a sudden, a 5 man TH/SS squad just got neutered. While admittedly not reliable to get, it is a fantastic power.

Depends. If I'm riding heavy with Dragons, Spiders, SLasers, I 2nd what Serling said. If I'm using Hawks at range, or fighting Plague Marines, I might keep Doom.

My personal fave that I found out; Eldrad + Divination Power; Perfect Timing (ignore cover) + Divination Power; Prescience (reroll shots, hits or scatter) + D-Cannons = Entire unit of Terminators gone in 1 shot. It's awesome.

(Tryin' not to be too detailed, forum rules an' all)

Good points. For higher Toughness opponents, Doom would potentially be better. I like it. This adds another tactical "wrinkle", more to think about when deploying the troops. Thanks guys.

I like running Eldrad + Karandras + group of scorps + cheap exarch with BRB powers. Yeah. Weird but fun.

Usually I can get either the 4+ invul or the Invis power. It makes up some for no Fortune but then you get to add the chance for Prescience or sometimes Misfortune.

The scorps are there to soak wounds mostly, the exarch is there to soak a round one challenge and with both Karandras and Eldrad rerolling to hits and wounding on 2's while ignoring armor that's usually 7 or so wounds per round minimum, not counting anything the scorps can do before they disappear.

Karandras + Eldrad is a fun combo, especially if you can get the 4+ invul over to K and his buddies. The exarch is important to take any challenges first so K and E can deplete the rest of the enemy unit care free for a round. And the entire unit becomes Fearless. Bonus!

Throw an Aegis half-way up the board to help with K's cover save for the group (K has stealth), Infiltrate in behind the aegis, support with Spiders or DA or your-shooty-unit-of-choice and you essentially own the center of the board, allowing your other units to work the flanks.

My experience with this group is when rolling for 4 powers there really isn't that much that can't be put into a decent combination. All of the powers either enhance lethality or enhance survivability- throwing them together with an essentially killy group is a lot of fun.

I've only played a few small games with borrowed Eldar, though I must say I've started liking Howling Banshees. Many think they suck, I don't. Doom the enemy you want dead, charge him with banshees, and see them melt away. Power Swords on 16pt models is really great.

Karandras in a unit Scorpions and an Exarch with Biting Blade to take the challenges can do a lot (I don't want to risk placing Karandras in a challenge as he either strikes at I1 and ignores saves or I7 and allows them).

Horrific Howling Banshee

I've been using Eldrad with his own powers for some time already.
I'm thinking about trying BRB powers but I cannot lose Fortune (using Harlequinn's mostly), so I was thinking about running both Farseer w/Doom, Fortune and Eldrad with BRB powers.
I don't need invisibility, so I'll use all 4 rolls on Divination chart. I'll be looking mainly for Misfortune and Forewarning. If I don't get either of them I'll just put him somewhere else and cast Prescience on War Walkers/Dire Avengers and depending on situation also cast Foreboding/Perfect Timing on some shooty units.

Well with S3 even with Doom re-rolls I never had that much success. Wounding on a 5+ against marines is just an uphill battle even with a full squad. Lack of AP2 also removed the best use of them, killing expensive terminators.

Combination of assault rules from vehicles, lack of cost effective transports, T3 4+, overwatch, and now making them AP3 means banshees are nearly useless. Restricting them to power swords was just a nail in the coffin. Harlequins are simply better in every situation. S4 on the charge, rending for 2+s, hit and run, and better resistance to shooting just makes them better all around.

Powers should almost NEVER be swapped out, especially if you are using a significant amount of S3-4. Doom and Fortune are then #1 and 2 powers in the game, order depending on who you ask. You are simply chancing too much on too few rolls for an expensive psyker who already has great powers. If you want to exchange powers, grab a corsair Void Dreamer. They have 3 powers standard, only 1 of which is good. At 70 points (though they lack RoW) and with the ability to re-roll one dice during the game, even on powers, they can reliably get a good power for cheap.

It worked for me when I took 2 farseers, one with 4 powers and swapping, one with doom/fortune.

Cheaper than Eldrad+Farseer although lacking the 3 powers a turn of course.

Getting Invisibility and then Prescience is just silly combined with Fortune/Doom. Not 100% guaranteed of course.

All the lists I've played or seen played in our local meta leave Eldrad as is, due to the intended role he has in most lists. Most people add him to a hard hitting squad that has modest survivability and he tacks on to make them dramatically survivable(Harlies, JBike Council).

I usually always swap for BRB powers when running a 2-3 power Farseer, and am about 50/50 on BRB or Eldar on single power Farseers in large games(like Apoc).

Fortune is good if you got Harlies or Reapers in cover as you're rerolling phenomenal saves or, a good combo of armor and cover but, if the majority of your army is different best swap out Eldrad with BRB skills.

Eldrad in a D-Cannon unit? My favorite combo ever. Oh he's T7 and likely causes AP2 blasts to ignore cover with rerolling scatter? F you.
