Myself doesnt play it but i was watching guys play at my store and a guy playing nids has a unit of gargoyles of 20 now the thing that i thought was kinda breaking the rules was that he would have them 2 inches apart across the table like in a line that was in front of his whole army that would give his whole army cover saves is this allowed?

Yup. There is a tactic for orks, called grot screens. Where you get the kannons and just load them up with grots and march them in front of your army to give the cover saves.

There is also a tactic for imperial guard where you put guys in front of your tanks to give it a cover save... cause they jump up to catch the bullets obviously! that tactic is called bubblewrap

so if a guy shoots at a trigon or swarmlord or anything that counts as a monstrous creature and if they have one of those guants that is in that line across the battle field they get a cover save against if they need to take one because if thats the case its kinda lame i mean reality you can shoot over something that is bigger then the rest.

No they don't as it does not cover 25% of the model, Gargoyles however, could arguably do this depending if you had 3 in front of it.
