Howdy Dakka. I'm not sure if this should go here or in GD (since I'm looking for advice on a list and don't have an actual list to post), but there's already a Death Star question in GD and mine is more specific so I thought I'd post it here.

The group at my LGS has been getting a little bored lately and we want to try something different so just for kicks we've decided to start a Death Star campaign. So far the rules are that each army's total point value can be nothing above 1750. Every army MUST have one (and only one) Death Star that can be no more than 800 total points. Other than that the standard list building rules apply. We will still be playing standard games but will have specific Death Star vs Death Star matches in between. During these special matches ONLY the Death Star unit can be used. The rest of the army has to sit and watch.

I haven't used it in a while, but I decided to break out my CSM codex for this as it seems like it has huge potential for DS units, but I've never been one to build units like that so I'm a little stuck in the mud with all the options. I was just wondering is those of you who have built DS units from the CSM book could point me in the right direction. I'm entertaining any and all options at this point so fire away! Thanks in advance!

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..."

Out of my Mind

I think one of the greatest things about the CSM dex is that there isn't a 'Death Star' option that abuses any fuzzy rule or allies like most death stars do.

If I had to build one, given your restrictions, I'd probably take a full unit of Nurgle Terminators led by Typhus, then spend as many points as you feel necessary on Zombie Cultists, to tarpit the crap outta your opponent and just let the Terminators do their work.

The Twilight Zone

You could do all nurgle bikers with 2 nurgle lords for T6 bikers, or slanessh bikers with 2 slanessh lords and icon of excess for FNP. Give one dude the black mace to wipe out all the other deathstar models, and the other the murder sword to challenge out the key players and murder them. Deck the lords out with all the other crazy stuff you can find. Another option is a sorcerer or 2 on a bike and rolling on the book powers. Maybe not the best star, but certainly fast and hard to kill.

With the inability to join mixed mark heroes, you can't really go IC or hero crazy like other armies can.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Idk if anything I type here will help but oh well.

The idea of Typhus with termies is good, I'd also take Huron to make them Infiltrate, unless you make them deep strike, then whatevs.

Along those lines, as far as infiltrating goes, 20 Zerkers will do well, but ever better than them are 20 MoK Possessed. Give them the icon and all the goodies, holy crap they will wreck any infantry unit. They have 5 attacks a peice on the charge, and get either AP3 attacks, re-roll attacks, or +1 A and I, and with the Icon of Rage will be at S6!! They are seriously sick.

For anyone planning a Typhus + Nurgle Terminators death star, they aren't as great as you'd hope. I mean, I gunned one down with a 20-strong battle sister squad and two meltaguns.

The deathstar i run at 2000 is 8 Khorne bikers with icon and plasmas, joined by a juggy lord with daemon axe and a sorcerer with telepthy looking for divination, must of the time i go 1 biomancy 2 telepathy.

They have done pretty well, and extremely awesome whenever the sorc gets invisibility or FnP on the unit. It costs 614 pts and it can deal pretty much with anything, they are fast, the got some nasty ap2 potential (plasmas & psy shriek on range, daemon axe and force axe on close combat), they get a reroll on their charge distance as well as FC and rage on everything except the sorcerer besides their hammer or wraths, and you get 3 character options to accept challenges so that you can avoid wasting your juggy lord on a mere champion.

Thanks all! I really appreciate the help. I just found out that, at least for this campaign, the group has agreed to let Abaddon join any marked units. I was thinking of taking him with some khorne marked terminators. Thoughts?

I really like the bike suggestion too. I don't think many of the other Death stars are going to have that kind of mobility. Keep 'em coming guys!

There is nothing to agree, this already got FAQed and abby is able to join any unit in the codex he pleases.

There's really no getting around it - Abby is the best Deathstar model in the codex. On his own he can wipe most other Deathstars out (not taking challenges into account). Throw him in a squad of Khorne termies w/ the Icon of Wrath, some lightning claws and a few 'fists. The champ eats challenges while Abby mauls the unit. Really, any marked terminators will do him well, tho Khorne & Slaanesh give the best icons.
