Hi guys - I'm new to Flames of War (and DakkaDakka), and I'd really appreciate some advice on my kompanie that only lasts a couple of rounds before routing. Its from Grey Wolf, I haven't bought any of it yet, and also I've designed it to be compatible (plus or minus some things) with a Lerh Panzer Gren coy from Earth and Steel so I can play on both fronts for the same cost.

Here it is:

HQ 65
Anti Tank Section 40
2iC Panzerfaust 10
Total 115

Combat Platoons
Compulsary Grenadier Platoon
3 Squads 220
Command Panzerfaust 10
251/10 (3.7cm) 0
Total 230

Compulsary Grenadier Platoon
3 Squads 220
Command Panzerfaust 10
251/10 (3.7cm) 0
Total 230

Weapons Platoons
Gepanzerte Heavy Platoon
2 Machine Gun Sections 165
Mortar Section 85
Total 250

Anti-Tank Gun Platoon
3 7.5cm PaK40 155
Field car and trucks 5
Total 160

Anti-Aircraft Platoon
2 10/5 (2cm) 85

Gepanzerte Panzerpioneer Platoon
3 Squads 265
Commandr Panzerfaust 10
251/11 (2.8cm) 5
Supply Maultier 30
Total 310

Support Platoons
Puma Panzerspah Platoon
1 Patrol 150

Panzer Platoon
4 Panzer IV H 360

1730 points total

Any advice would be well appreciated guys

Thanks in advance

I always visualize Panzer Grenadier lists as mobile. Where you move and try and pick your fight. I would question whether several of your choices are too static, and you'll find your list has a problem staying together.

I'd consider dropping the Heavy Platoon, and even the Anti Tank gun Platoon for something like a Tank Hunter Platoon w/ maybe Marders or even StuGs.

Whilst panzergrens have the potential to be a very mobile and awesome force, there's always that chance that you will be playing on the defensive. Operating around your static support options is not a bad idea in this case.

Maybe go for the armoured cannon halftracks in the heavy platoon instead of more rockets; they're not powerful enough to warrant bringing more than 4 with extra teams.

Still quite a good well rounded list... obviously I would suggest adding tanks but then I am fickle like that

My Experience with Mobile PanzerGrens is that if you lack Cover e.g terrain and lots of it, your transports tend to get shot to pieces.

In dense terrain boards they can zoom around with a high degree of survivability, I have also seen and experienced Mechanised Platoons raped silly by AAA or Recce units especially with delayed reserves anything greater than an MG is going to be a concern when zipping about in Hanomags.

If I was going this route I would want to do Pioneers list because you are likely to end up with platoons minus transport facing off against armour which means digging in and Pioneers with their Tank assault is very prickly.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

A Sherman company will shoot you to pieces since you only have 3 pak40s. US Armor is becoming more popular with the Bulge books.

You need an armor platoon to work in concert w the Paks.

I'd go for lehr as you get more bases therefore better in assault, but more expensive.

You also need lots of smoke, if the enemy is struggling to see you and has to move then you're taking less shots so less hits and you survive more

No you don't. Armour isn't essential, especially in an armoured infantry list.

You are weak against a lot of medium armour but that's just a weakness with the list and you can always simply dismount if you need to. The only changes that I would suggest is slimming down the Panzewefers and upgrading the PaK40s to Marders or something similar as mobile AT will be useful. The heavy platoon would work a lot better with mortars as you really need smoke and you already have more than enough anti infantry firepower.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

Many thanks guys for the very fast responses.

Okay, so I've ditched the AntiTank and the Rockets, and replaced them with a Mortar section in the Heavy platoon, and 4 StuG Gs. Points total is at 1750 exactly.

(see above list)

Does it look any better?

Have you seen the recent German PDFs on BFs forum? Panzers to the Meuse and the Fuhrer Brigades? While still under review they should be official by the end of the month per Wayne.

Yes I'll have a battery of six 88's thanks very much

That fuhrer brigade list is just mentalist.

Fuhrer Brigades look good, but points wise I think they are way too expensive - but unbelievable Tank killing capacity!!!

Okay, tried the list above in combat - it did good, but many things seemed to be a waste of points. Arty would have been very useful too.

So, I've come up with this list:

Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier Lehr Kompanie
HQ 65
2 Panzerschreks 65
2iC Panzerfaust
TOTAL 130

Combat Platoons
Compulsary Grenadier Platoon
3 Squads 280

Compulsary Grenadier Platoon
3 Squads 280

Rocket Artillery
6 NW41 + transport 205

Halftracked Recce
1 Patrol 115

Panzer Platoon
4 Panzer IV H 360

Tank-hunter Platoon
4 StuG G 380

TOTAL 1750

Note: both compulsory Panz. Gren. Platoons have 3.7cm upgrade to command halftrack

How does this list look?
