Hello everyone! I have decided to start a blog on my second IG army the Armageddon Steel Legion.

I have been in love with the whole concept of Blitzkrieg for a long time, and i feel like the Steel Legion embody such an idea. I have been in love with these venerated models ever since i got into 40k about 5-6 years ago. Their trench coats and Fallschirmjäger style helmets had me hooked at the start. I plan on doing a Mechanized Company loaded with Chimeras and Russes. I also plan on trying some different schemes for Legionaries stationed on different parts of Armageddon inspired byDonKarst0n and his blog found here http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?247863-Hive-Hades-Steel-Legion-Log/page2.
I spent a lot of time deliberating on how i wanted to paint my Legion. I knew when i started this army that it would be my first one where i spent more time on painting the individual than i did batch painting my previous Guard army. In the end i settled on the traditional brown trench coats, albeit with a little of my own flair on it. I also wanted to try and paint the Chimeras with an airbrush, but being at a military college space is limited as you will more than likely find out. Also, as a byproduct of a military school my time is often stretched thin, but i will try my best to post updates whenever i can.

Please feel free to give any input you would like throughout the duration of this blog. Without further ado lets get cracking.

My first step in this process was the Test model, however i did not want to paint a Legion model at first, so i used the only alternative i had...a Cadian.

After spending hours on deciding the base color...literally painted up a blank base 3 or 4 times before i settled i began painting. Unfortunately, i didn't think to take pictures until long after i was finished.
Here are the pictures of the finished squad.

It took me a while to settle on how i wanted to "flock" the base, so i decided that ruined machinery was the best way to go. So, i took out some old sprues and clipped off anything that looked mechanical, i painted it up and then used some weathering powders to give it a heavy rust.

After the first squad was painted i looked towards a command squad, after settling on the models i needed to convert the Steel Legion Lascannon team into an Auto Cannon Team, which was as simple as taking the plastic Heavy Weapons Team Auto Cannon and using the Steel Legion Models. I left room on the base for one guy to be removed in the instance of a wound, which also allows me to use said model whenever i choose not to take the Weapons Team.

The Master of the Ordinance is the Full Borer Miniatures "The Artillerist", i model i fell in love with after seeing it in the Charity Project; Heroes of Armageddon. I took a vox caster and clipped it in half and then took some random armored plating and placed it infront of it to give it a more...sturdy look, i then weathered it much the same way as the machinery i used for the bases.

Well. that's all i have for now, the rest will be posted as i paint them. If there are any questions or comments, again feel free to post them!

Thanks for taking a look!

Arthur

So last night I pulled together a quick Objective. Just took some bits from various Cadian kits including Command Squad, heavy Weapons Team, and basic Infantry Squad.

More updates to come soon!

Good afternoon everyone, had a little bit of spare time this morning and began work on converting a Commissar to a Steel Legion one, needless to say the only necessary conversion was a gas mask rig. It has come along quite well. Not sure if I want to add anything else. What do you think? Feel free to comment!

Trying to settle on a color for my tanks...I love the traditional steel legion gray and tan scheme. However, I cant decide what color gray to use. I'm debating between a more blue gray or a standard gray color.
Any input out there?

I'd use a Brown-Gray like P3's Bastion gray. I think it'd go well with the tan.

Hmm...that does actually look nice, might have to get a bottle (pot whatever it comes in) and try it out.i do like how dark it is. Thanks for the recommendation!

Also, here are two of my vox conversions, simple to do, but very fitting to Steel Legion I think. Seeing as how Steel Legion completely lacks Vox troopers i had to make my own. I settled on the Catachan small vox caster unit as it is the only one that does not look gigantic on the model itself. Then i had to do some minor clipping to make room on the back so the caster would fit in a place that looked natural (this was much harder than i had anticipated ). I currently have another one base coated ready to go, might paint that tonight. After that its either another Auto Cannon, or Some Missile Teams, which one would you guys like to see first?

your work looks great so far. I am in the process of painting my own IG army and just seeing someone working on their own Ig army is inspiration. the ONLY suggestion I could make to you is adding some static grass to your bases for additional detail....some dead grass would work well with the color scheme. I look forward to seeing more updates on your legion, keep up the work!

Thanks for the input, i had a few people say the same thing at my Local store, ill upload what i decided to do instead later this afternoon

Ill probably begin the Commissar this afternoon as well, first time using Green stuff to customize something so hope it turns out well

Haha thanks guys, honestly its my first green stuff conversion...I used my hands and a mechanical pencil to do the majority. An exacto here and there.

Good evening everyone! Time for the update. Definitely had a hard time deciding between the traditional commissar black coat or Steel Legion Coats. Feel free to leave input.

Also, instead of grass which i would assume to be completely dead/nonexistent on an Ash Waste, i decided Rusted Crap would be a bit more appropriate. More work to come this week, as a side note i will be going home next week so it might be a week or so until the next update depending on how much time i have. Thanks for all the great feedback, you guys keep me going!

Whats up guys, sorry about the lack of updates lately, I'm on my spring break and i am working pretty much every day. As soon as i get back though i plan on hitting the grinding wheel. One more squad is down on the table, and after that its a choice between Drybrushing some Chimeras or holding off for a while to wait for an Airbrush(i can not have one in my dorm room much to my dismay). Thanks again for all of the input, and if there is anything (within reason) that you would like to see, feel free to post it and ill do my best to try it out!
