So, this is very exciting for me. I've been wanting to try out a war game for a while but was a bit intimidated by warhammer since it is WAY more of an time/financial investment to play. Then I came across Infinity because of BoW. I am absolutely SOLD on this game. So I guess I'm hoping folks can give me some tips for not only this game but for the Nomads which is the faction I'm planning on playing. I want to buy my team in the next week and I'm aiming for 300. I've looked at a few pieces. The first I was drawn to was actually Bran do castro, mostly because of his sculpt and because he's the monkey king. I haven't hear many things about him which leads me to believe that he's not that good. But I may try him anyway. The other characters that I'm looking at are Inventor as my Lieutenant, Zoe I hear is very good, Tsyklon spitfire, Reverend custodier as a possible Lt. But overall I'm just looking for Some input for how the nomads play team line ups, and things I should know being new. Lastly I have heard about the Iguana TAG. But I can't find it on the infinity website. Is it not available anymore?
All input is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

The Iguana has NEVER been available - it's one of the two Nomad TAGs yet to be done (the other is the new one from Paradiso, the Gecko).
Can't tell you much about the nomads - it's the only faction apart from an all-scottish Ariadna mob - that I won't collect due to the aesthetics not appealing to me.

Welcome to the addiction... Er hobby The first an foremost thing to know about Infinity is NOTHING is good or bad. Some things are just situationally better then others. Bran is a hefty alpha strike model that start right on you opponent's doorstep, superjump off walls, and guns down enemy weak points before they know what just happened to them.
In starting you collection make sure you pick stuff you like from a modeling standpoint but also that you are picking up some cheap point cost models to have a solid core to work with. From you likes I'd highly recommend the Bakuinin starter + Interventor + Bran + Zoe and Piewell. That is a solid core of models to start collecting.
As far as getting ito the game, start slow. Jumping in nexk deep at 300pts will end badly. Start at aboit 100pts with very very basic models. Preferably 2-3 games of 3 basic light infantry (moderators/alguaciles) and a Heavy Infantry (Mobile Brigada). Just proxy models (pretend the model is something else) to dotheae matchs ao you can get the very basic core rules down like good deployment, roll mechanics, basic tactics, order sequence, etc. Without a solid understanding of these you will struggle when all the special rules starting coming at you.
Let me know if you need anything. If it's in Nomads I have played it a few dozen times lol.

Whereas He ^ is a one-eyed fanatic. There's nowt wrong with my sense of aesthetics, boyo. I just don't like dogs in skirts, MEN in skirts, monkey men, or the Nuns with more-ass. Or pirate scum (this is why I have ninja - for while there are ninja in my collection, the pirates will not approach). "Whilst nothing is bad" ... Well, some units are doubtlessly BETTER at the job than others, though. Pretty much any model can wound any other model with a lucky hit, and even TAGs fall down to multiple crits.

I like that List and think I may go with it. Can it be made into a 300 pt team depending on weapons? No big if it cant. I'm glad Bran has his uses, I really like that sculpt and want to use it a lot. Would adding crazy koala's or other REmotes be a good addition to this build? You've been a great help. Can the Nomads do well against Aleph? Just curious because that's the faction my friend will be going with.
And lastly, How do you guys usually paint your minis and make your bases? By painting I mean do you paint all your characters a uniform of colors schemes like in WH? Do you just rely on a uniform color to include in every model and paint the rest individually ( for instance maybe the only color your characters have to have in common is a certain shade of blue and the rest can be different?) Or do you paint them ALL to be individuals and have no colors tying them together at all.
And how do you decorate your bases in general? Do you buy them pre made? This is also an area that I am inexperienced, I've painted my share of minis but doing bases I could uses some advice with. Thanks again for all the input!

There's a lot of great painting blogs you can take a look at here. You can certainly make them look like what CB has done but you can also come up with your own look.

As CDK said, on modeling and painting it's totally personal preference. I do my own color scheme and custom bases, but I also have a lot of miniature experiance. There is a LOT of great resin premade bases out there you can buy if you want to go that route. You can paint the individually or as force color scheme, it's all in what you prefer.
I personally prefer a uniform color scheme and bases for easy detection of "what is mine" on the field.
As far as that list of stuff goes it comes out to:
Nomads | 10 models

 Zoe Combi (53|0)

So a little shy on 300pts, but you should be delving into 300pts anytime soon so you have time. To flesh it out you can grab the Prowler w/ Spitfire and a Lunokhod Sputnik to flesh it out the rest of the way. Just be forewarned that the Remotes are a bit challenging to assemble.
As far as "are they good against Aleph", those kinda broad generalizations don't exist in Infinity. It's all about what is being played on each side, the mission, and what tactics you use. Someone could take 100pts vs 300pts and depending on the setup and tactics the 100pts would win.

Hey I'm a noob to this forum too....
Annnd it took me a while to get here, as I thought I had an old account from MY 40K days.
But to the topic at hand;
Markers, are your best friend if you are into hacking. You can get a Reverend Custodier Hacker (LT optinal), with a Marker, and begin doing all sorts of (dirty, stinking) Nomad tricks.
But first, I wouldn't aim for getting 300 points just yet, until you are settled with the basics of orders and AROs
Bran is one of a few close combat masters that the Nomads have, and with CC being very situational, you have to use his camoflage, superior infiltration and meta-agility to set him up to attack unsuspecting units. But have someone with a Multi-Spectral visor, and the jig is up.

Hotfoot and TheDarkeldar, welcome to Dakka and to Infinity!
As has been said, beware starting off at such a high points level, starting out at 100-150 will give you a better idea of the rules and whatnot (or so i hear, i havent managed to play a game yet.. )
Models can be bought pretty much on their looks, as chromedog has said, some models are more efficient than others, but pretty much anything can be used effectively overall.
and BD is your go to guy for Nomads from what i have seen, so ask away and im sure he will be able to answer you (if anyone else cant of course)! He even made an email address for the sole purpose of answering Infinity questions on the fly....what a guy!

Thanks for the Welcome, as I said I'm a noob to Dakka, but not to Infinity as I actually bought my first miniatures back in September of '06. I've been playing, and demonstrating since then, including running a hacking demo at the Infinity booth at GenCon last year. So I'm another person you can ask questions of.

Wanted to ask a few more questions instead of making a new thread. These have to do more with figures than the game.
First what glue do you guys usually use? Do you combine it with green stuff?
Also, I'm not a stranger to painting figs. But I'm sure most of you guys have more experience then me. So, what do you usually prime your figs with?
Do you do a ink wash first? I've had problems with metal figs paint wearing down or chipping off in the past. is that just me painting them badly or do I need a better primer?
Air brush? Yay or nay?
Lastly do you guys use a finish or sealant of some sort when your done painting?
again thanks for all the help guys, just ordered some figs and they should be here soon. cant wait to start painting them!

I am not a pro @ painting, but I'll share what I know:
- paint chipping is usually due material to mold leftovers that are invisible to the naked eye. I usually wash my metal models under hot water with soap.
- I use the normal superglue that you can get at the local grocery store
- I use a black spray as primer, similar to the one GW sells, but cheaper.
What did you order, btw ?

I use Zap-A-Gap. It's a litte thicker than other superglues, and it doesn't instantly bond, so I have a little bit of repositioning time. Once I get the part attached I drizzle a little more ZAG into the joint. So far I haven't had to try and pin thing like arms.
Duplicolor Sandable Primers, available at most auto parts store. For me a few light coats and I'm good to go.
I pretty much go for the old GW tournament standard of at least 3 colors, plus some detail painting. Not professional, but it is presentable. Washes are something I do towards the end of the detail work, as I may need to re-highlight something.
I then use Testors Dullcoat spray to seal the miniature. I then finish the detailing with brush on gloss varnish, where I do want a shine, or paint "eyes" and displays with clear paints that are glossy too.
I don't do too much for basing, as I simply brush some decopage sealant (basically thinned down white glue), and then dip it into a bowl of model railroading flocking that I've had for years. Knock off the excess and I'm done.
I've only used an airbrush many years ago when I wanted to apply the same base color to lots of the same unit. Infinity has such a low requirement for miniatures per game that the time spent for setting up, spraying and clean-up, could be more than just hand painting.
Good luck and a steady hand.

I'm going to come out and say it: I think airbrushes for infantry minis are overrated. There, it feels good.
I do everything traditionally, brushwise. I use Krylon White primer, a few light passes with plenty drying time in between.
Someone mentionned this and I think it's brilliant: a black wash off the bat to fill in harder to reach spots that you might miss.
I dilute my paint on a wet pallette, and wipe most of it off the brush before applying it to the mini.
I seal with Krylon low-odour interior matte varnish, but my first choice was a Prismacolor Epoxy sealer that I haven't been able to find in FLS anywhere for a few years. Sad Panda.

I actually want to try a technique that bases at first in black and then spray white from the top. But both of these can use standard spray cans.
