Not sure about the biker squad, would something else help me more? I'm thinking they could go objective hunting and outflanking whilst the rest of the army covers ground in tanks.

if its possible i prefer to take melta guns in stead of plasma guns for the gray hunter so there is less chance of killing yourself and there is more power.

I know, I guess I'm just feeling a bit cheap what with meltas not being on the Space Wolves sprues and all.

a space wolf army with no rune priest or long fangs? What madness is this?

Seriously, it looks pretty good to me. I am not a space wolf expert by any means but it should pack a decent punch up close while still having enough boots on the ground to capture objectives.

Bravo for writing a different space wolf list to what you normally see!

Might want to look at putting a beacon on the bikes and teleporting your wolf guard/lord in. Land raiders are huge bullet magnets and if you dont' get the first turn you could find your wolf guard walking across the field (even with 14 all around a rail gun can one shot it and a dev squad or Anti tank pred could pen or glance it to death). Personally i love bikes, keep them in close combat and they'll do you proud, also a great way to drop the termies in close.

It seems like a shame to waste Initiative 5 on your Wolf Lord by giving him a hammer - especially when the unit he's leading already has a Thunder hammer AND a Chainfist. Give the Wolf Lord a Wolf Claw instead and save 5 points.

You've made some arithmetic errors. The Land Raider Redeemer with Multi-melta is only 250 points. (240 for the LRR, + 10 for the MM) so you've overcharged yourself 15 points. Also, this unit ...

Spoiler:

10 Grey Hunters.
2 Plasma Guns
Wolf Standard
Mark of the Wulfen
Power Fist
Rhino with Extra Armour. All in all, 270 points á unit.

Is actually only 255 points. But in my humble opinion, the Power Fist is unnecessary. So you should drop the PF's and roll these squads at 220 points a piece. Now you have 170 points left to spend.

2500 pts

I would take melta instead of plasma, i wouldn't take the power fist on the bikers, Maybe wouldn't take the Rhino's incase of giving away first blood or would hide them like crazy.

Yeah, the termie unit may be excessive on the heavy weapons front. Swapping one of them unwieldies for a claw is likely a good idea. I'll probably still roll the lord with a hammer (there is the rule of manliness to consider) but I don't need the WG hammer.

Well, all the transports have been given Extra Armour so I think the calculations are correct enough.

Still, if I were to drop the PF's and aforementioned thunder hammer I'd have 80 points to play with. That opens up quite a few options:

  • By removing the melta bombs from one of the Swiftclaws, that's a Predator Destructor.

  • It could also be three additional Hel's Angels (and Melta Bombs for the Wolf Priest).

  • It's enough for 10 Fenrisian wolves as squishy screens (or 9 if one is upgraded to Cyberwolf).

  • A Land Speeder Tornado with TWO multi-meltas.

  • A termie Lone Wolf with dual wolf claws and two Fenrisian wolves (by dropping the melta bombs from one biker).

  • Hmmm....

    Automatically Appended Next Post:
Sorry for the double post, but I realised two things:

    1) Saga of the Hunter on the Wolf Priest is illegal if he's riding a bike.
    2) Many of my proposals on the listing above are also illegal, as ALL bikers must take melta bombs.

One solution would be to drop Saga of the Hunter for Saga of the Wolfkin and announce the arrival of the bikers by a swarm of wolves.

Another, possibly mad solution, would be to do the following changes:

    HQ:

Wolf Lord. Terminator Armour, Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield and Saga of the Bear: 215 points

Wolf Priest. Terminator Armour and Combi-Melta. 125 points.

Rune Priest. Terminator Armour, Combi-Flamer and Saga of the Beastslayer. 135 points.

All three go with the Wolf Guard

    Elites:

    5 Wolf Guard with TDA.
1 with Wolf Claw and Storm Shield.
    1 with dual Wolf Claws.
1 with Assault Cannon and Power Sword.
1 with Frost Axe and Combi Plasma.
1 with Chain Fist and Wolf Claw. 270points.

Dedicated Transport for Wolf Guard, Wolf Lord, Rune Priest and Wolf Priest: Land Raider Crusader with Extra Armour and Multi-Melta: 275 points.

    Troops:

    FOUR sets of:

    10 Grey Hunters.
    2 Plasma Guns
    Wolf Standard
    Mark of the Wulfen
Rhino with Extra Armour. All in all, 245 points á unit. 980 points for all four.

Brings the total to 1998 points.

Pros and cons the way a newb sees it:

+ Buffs the Terminator Deathstar by giving them a better transport and swelling their ranks by a Daemon-slaying Rune Priest and a inspiring Wolf Priest (which they may not actually need). They should murder pretty much everything they touch though.
+ Provides more boots on the ground. Gotta remember them objectives.

    - Loses fast elements.

    Actually seems worth it. Or...?

I like this list better. However, I have some comments which can improve this list.

First of all, your numbers are still wrong for the Grey Hunters. Remember that if you take 10 dudes in the squad, then you get the second plasmagun for free. So the breakdown is

    Spoiler:

    10 Grey Hunters = 150 pts
2 Plasmaguns = 10 pts for the first one, 0 points for the second.
    Wolf Standard = 10 pts
    MotW = 15 pts
    Rhino = 35 pts
    Extra Armor = 15 pts.

    Total = 235 pts.

So that saves you 40 points.

Second, you really don't need Extra Armor on your Rhinos or Raider because the odds of getting a crew shaken result are very small compared to the odds of getting anything else. So in effect, you're spending 15 points PER RHINO in order to mitigate a situation which ... one, almost never happens and two, isn't really much worse than crew stunned anyway.

Seriously...Save 75 points and don't take Extra Armor. Now you have 115 points to play with.

Third, Rune Priests suck at close combat so why are you giving him Saga of the Beast Slayer? Especially considering that he's in a unit that is loaded with strength 8 close combat weapons. They don't need any extra help wounding T5 models. That unit already has it covered. Also, the Rune Priest will mostly be using his Psychic powers during the shooting phase, so you're wasting points on the combi-flamer. Get rid of the combi-flamer and the saga and just give him a Chooser of the Slain instead.

Fourth, reconsider the hammer on the wolf lord. Seriously. Manliness is destroying all of the models in the enemy unit with your wolf claw before they get to hit back and not leaving any bad guys for the rest of your unit to kill. If you have the wolf claw at initiative 5, you get to strike first - potentially killing off enemy models before they get to attack you. But if you take the thunder hammer, you will go last. This is especially true given that the rest of your unit already has a chainfist and a Thunder hammer.

Thank you yet again. So, dropping the Heavy Armour, doing the maths right, removing the combi-flamer on the rune priest... that should give me 120 points to play with.

How to spend them though? I already have 40 troops, and the elite are already excessive (though undeniably glorious!). I guess the best way of spending these points would be on something that would help the army as it's moving forward. We're looking at four Rhinos and a Land Raider just trudging forward in the beginning, after all.

    Possible options:

Iron Priest on a bike with two cyberwolves and a wolf tail talisman. Mobile repair unit + suicidial tank buster in a pinch? Weighs in at 120 sharp. Probably not worth it?

Trim 5 points away from somewhere, run naked Iron Priest cruising around in a Razorback with twin-linked lascannon?

Five-man team of Long Fangs (Squad Leader, four missile launchers), leaves five points to be spent somewhere?

Vindicator with Dozer Blade? Well... could draw some heat away from the transports..?

    Predator with lascannon sponsons?
