I know the Precursors wanted the Humans, not the Forerunners, to inherit the Mantle, and that the Forerunners refused to acknowledge this truth. Except for the Librarian of course; she believed that the Forerunners had been weakened by the Mantle (or that they didn't have what it takes to uphold it, but that's just me), and that the Humans could do what the Forerunners could not. And apparently, the Flood did ultimately approve of the Humans' claim to the Mantle, hence it's cessation of infestation against the Ancient Humans. The question is why? What makes Humanity worthy? We're just as cruel and ruthless as the Forerunners, so what's the distinction?
