This is just a check to make sure i got the rule right in the first place.
I have a space marine commander (S 2+/4+ Invul) leading a regular tactical squad right at the front.
they are wounded by a total of 1 AP1 and 6 AP5 hit.
Since the commander is the closest from the ennemy firing unit am i allowed to go 1 save at the time on him and technicaly succeeding all saves, in other word waisting all wound on him?

Yes. Your opponent chooses the order of wounds to be saved against. Your commander can either LOS or attempt to save each wound. If you try to save it, you cannot LOS that particular wound.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Not only are you allowed to, you are told to. Wounds begin with the closest model to the firing unit and continue on that model until it dies, moving to the next model. If that one model saves against all wounds, then congratulations!

Happyjew is correct in all respects. Especially in the situation you described, you should follow his (and the rulebook's) instructions.
However, there is also a way to speed up the game, in one situation. If all the saves in the target unit are the same (for example, a Marine squad with a Sergeant character), you can roll all the saves at once. Take away models until you get to the character, and then LoS! as many wounds as you don't want on the character.
Note that this is not the way the rulebook says to do it, although it is vaguely along the lines of the "Fast Dice" on p16. It is significantly faster than rolling one save at a time; just make sure your opponent understands what you're doing.

The FAQ took that option away, as long as there is a character you must use the mixed save single allocation method. Before the FAQ you could do the same save then LOS speed roll but not any more unless of course you and your opponent are intelligent and understand that the same save method rolls the saves for the unit then allocates.

You could also use "Look Out Sir" if you didn't want the commander to take a wound. For example, if you didn't want the AP1 melta shot to instakill him.
