Hey guys so my birthday is coming up in a little over a month so my GF ordered a chaos dwarf army from ebay unmade forgeworld style. So I need some advice on a army for them I NEVER played dwarf or any ranged army before and would like to try and make this one shooty being dwarf and a movement of 1" a turn kinda limits the running option.

So I got the tamurkhan book and am using their rules for Legion of Azgorh. She bought me 60 Infernal Guard 30 With flameglaves, 6 sorcerer's 1 of ever tank thing they have, 4 commands, 3 k'daai fireborn and 3 bull centaur also using a forgefiend for a k'daai destroyer. Using this I would like a army that can hold in a upcoming tornie. All cc and coments would be loved thanks

I will be playing against" Lizardmen, New Chaos, Tomb King, Wood Elf and a Beastman who loves ambush with lots of gors.

Unfortunately your rares cost too much. 540 is more than 25% of 2000. There is a bit of reason why people favor monster rares at 250points or below, they can field 2 of them at 2k whereas a Kdaai Destroyer costs a pretty penny in points to field

Also are those infernal guard melee troops? (ones without the guns). If they are, they'll get steam rolled fast

Characters are a bit naked, maybe drop a Daemonsmith to get more dwarves or upgrades.

Damn your right about the rare lol.

Ya the two set of 10 infernal guards are melee, I can upgrade them to two units of 20 drop the smith and k'daai destroyer. But I am not sure how.... survivable the unit will be anyways lol.

I was thinking my best bet was to try and shoot as much as possible and then use a few expandable units to block the charges. With the rule for 20 blunderbusses in a unit rerolling failed to wound rolls and no penalties for long range. I am not sure what to do lol.

I can grab some hobgoblins for really cheap points 3 hobgoblins for the same price of 1 infernal guard. Then upgrade to 2 units of 20 infernal guard with blunderbusses.

First of all make it 2000+, that is where Chaos Dwarfs shines. what are you using on your Lords & heroes? And also you do not need two daemon smiths. Also drop the fire born, they are not what you need. Use the points to add more bodies to the rank & file troops you will sorely need.

Units of twenty with shields for combat troops. No naked characters!

Those are the ground rules. Also, I've found the mortar slightly underwhelming. I like the rocket given your stated opponents. Maybe a skullcracker? It did amazing things for me.

Agreed but I find the Infernal guard to work best in 30+ units, the mortar will always preform but never make a immense round of shooting. But it is quite reliable and will contribute to your victory. Skullcrakers are not worth it, take the rocket instead. Much much more bang for buck.

Chaos dwarf characters don't need much in the way of magic items, just get more bodies. I would suggest droppings the K'Daai destroyer he's not going to be very effective in an army like this. Drop a daemonsmith and get more bodies + a bull centaur Tauruk, decent bare bones hero who can clobber skirmishes independently and work well in a unit.

I mean you only need one daemonsmith, a better alternative to a destroyer. And don't overload on magic items on characters, they obviously still need them but not to many only ones suited to their requirements. I think more dwarfs and a bull centaur Taurus are better than a pointless extra deamonsmith. Sorry if the first post was not clear.

The destroyer is in my experience quite useful in any situation. The Taurus is a okayish hero but he needs good equipment to shine. And agreed upon the dwarf point

Yeah they are actually really good but I dont feel that one would work that efficiently in this list. I personally run one. I agree about the Taurus but they can be well equipped for their job quite easily and they do it effectively.

Sorry for reviving an old post, but this need to be said:

The only thing in your army, that is really kicking some melee ass, is the destroyer and possible the Hell cannon. You need them or at least the destroyer.
You will ever only need 2 deamon smiths.
Dwarf units need to be at least 25+ - they have great armor, but little attacks - they need to be able to take a punch, and hold their Vp at the same time.
The Tauruk is great, but the renders suck with only two attacks - only 3 renders and then 1 tauruk.
THrow some bows on the goblins so that they can clear chaff.
The Iron deamon can be great, but can also get stuck all battle by a single unit on horses, since it have thunderstump and not grinding hits.
The magma cannon is ALWAYS great and so is the death shrieker. I prefer the hell cannon to the earthquaker due to its fighting powers.
You need redirectors - wolf riders or khans.
If you are going to use blunderbuss use +25 for reerols.
Also, ALWAYS magical protection on profet - costs too much to loose.
I find that sticking a bsb in anywhere is great - stubborn? Yes please
