This game has been an incredible surprise for me. Which in itself is surprising as the first thing that got me into Metal Gear was the Cyborg Ninja from MGS.
Cutting enemies up into little chunks of gore while they foolishly attempt to stop you is immensely satisfying.
The non stop slaughter is punctuated by some brutalising Boss fights. You can attempt to fumble your way through the game without learning the mechanics at first, but when you get to some of the later bosses you will be kicked to the curb extremely hard if you haven't picked up these core mechanics. I kind of respect the game for doing this, too many hack and slash games just allow you a lot of leeway to play however you want. Without structure games like this can get incredibly boring. Thankfully, Revengeance does not.
The Story is your typical mix of over the top villains, mad dialogue and popcorn plot that seems to be trying to be deep but has it's tongue firmly placed in its cheek.
The music is surprisingly catchy too. Not my typical cup of tea but when you're wading through enemies or going toe to toe with a big bad it definitely sets the mood.
My favourite mission out of the entire game has to be the one that was featured in the Demo. Set in Russia, or perhaps a former Soviet Bloc country, you go up against a Variety of PMCs, UGs and fight a boss who looks like she's right out of the Beauty and the Beast Corps from MGS4.
The only thing I don't like about this game is the main villain. I think he felt a touch out of place in the way he was presented. I think a female villain would have gone down well. Other than that small quibble I thought the rest of the Characters were spot on. Even the one who looked a bit too much like Vamp. Don't get me wrong, you can tell they are different people, I just think the aesthetic was a bit too close.
Spoiler:
With rumours of sequel already floating about I can say that I welcome this new direction for the Metal Gear franchise, long may it continue.
Rumour for the sequel, might be a piss take from Kojima but I don't care...
