on many YMDC forums the OP's original question is answered in the first few posts, but then the thread continues talking about something completely unrelated. (well it's not completely unrelated but it is unnecessary posting)

on YMDC I suggest that dakkadakka puts a button at the top of the thread that only the creater of the thread can see that says something like "my question was answered" This button would then take it off of the front page of that particular category.

The problem is that a question will often spawn useful relevant discussion. The first answer isn't always the right one, or the complete one.

This would, however, tie in really nicely to a karma system whereby the person who answered OP's question (or was voted best answer by the community) was rewarded in some meaningless but visual way. Obviously lego is not averse to adding single-subforum-specific scripting, à la the topic formatting code for the trade forums.
