Now, since GW changes its fluff every five minutes or so, it is probably unrealistic to think that it has remained consistent between game systems, but I'm curious if they ever indicated that the troubles taking place in DF were a start on the long, hard road that culminates in 40k.

Thanks

Could be.
There's a crapload of undiscovered shenanigans between DF and 40k (Given that DF is in a post-apoc world in the maybe-early-21st century and 40k is some 38,000-odd years later.)

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Yeah, of course, the Dark Age of Technology (really a somewhat naive Golden Age) intervenes between the DF and 40K eras, but, as you say, a lot can happen in 38,000 years. I've always wondered if the DF era, with its few daemonic crop-ups (like the virus-possessed car in one of the novels) was not supposed to be a troubling foreshadowing of far-off things to come.
